How much should I pay for this 2009 335i Vert, 29k miles?
This car:
Car: 335i convertible MY: 2009 MIles: 29,900 Package: M-Sport, Premium Options: Steptronic, Navigation, PDC, Comfort Access In-service date: August 2009 Carfax: clean with one owner Asking price: $39,890 I plan to have a thorough PPI done before consumating the deal. It was a trade-in at a Porsche dealership, and they're asking for $39,890. I'd like to put in an offer in the next day or two and start negotiating. Thoughts? Overpriced? Under? On target? What should I end up paying for this car? Also considering we're heading into summer... I assume prices on convertibles are firming up a little bit. All advice welcome! Thanks everyone, and hope to rejoin the BMW family very soon! Jay Last edited by Battlefrog; 06-17-2011 at 06:19 PM.. |

Nope. Not a CPO. It was a trade-in from the original owner at a Porsche dealership. Sorry about posting in the wrong section - newb mistake. My bad. Can I move the thread? Or maybe a mod could do that?

Thanks for all the advice so far. Very interesting. So are you guys suggesting $35k-36k as the initial offer, or the final, walk-away price I should pay for this thing?

Your price of 36k is about right. I paid 39.8k for one with only 12480 miles, regular sport package not the M sport package -

This one looks like it has nav too. Check nada. $37k would be a hot deal. $35k or $36k aint gonna happen. They are not going to give it to you for cost or less than cost unless they made out like bandit on a Porsche to that previous owner.

Agree with Alex. This car looks pretty loaded. Even at the price they are asking, it sounds like a good deal. Go to Autotrader.com, cars.com, or even Craig's List and do a little comparing to see. I think you will find that there are not many 2009 335i convertables being offered below $40k without a ton of mileage.

Yup. Thanks Vector & Alex. I've checked Edmunds, KBB, and Nada. A car that's reasonably loaded, good condition, and 29k miles cars are priced at around $38k trade-in, $39-41k private party, and $43k+ at dealer retail. Looks like the asking price is reasonable. Just wanted to get the street level opinion from you guys. Max's recent purchase of a similar car with 13k miles for just under $40k, from a dealer, is a great data point.

Hey man, before taking any action, check Crevier pre-owned inventory. I have had good experience with them so you can also use the advantage of CPO
Edit: Why in IL if you're in Cali?

@Trojan: I've been checking the inventory at the local dealerships, but they just don't have the color combos and/or options I'm looking for. And the prices are quite high too, mostly in the low $40s, and even more for CPO. So as much as I hate paying for shipping, I'd rather buy a car I really want from Chicago rather than a 2nd or 3rd choice car locally.

Find a dealer who is willing to take your to Manhiem or let you buy from the dealer inventory. I got a 2010 328i convertible with every option possible with 16000 for 39000

Another example is a loaded (nav included) 2008 128i converitble with 19k miles advertized up by a noCal Acura dealer for $24.8k. I asked for a couple more grand off and it got snapped up fairly quick by someone else for advertized price. I think the newer BMW convertibles hold their value much more than other models. There are just not that many around with low miles and loaded. Good luck with the negotiations! Remember that it's better to pay a bit more for a clean and loaded car over a cheap and high mileage car. |

Buyer beware on the California Beemers vert for $39k with 7k miles on it.....it was in a bad rear end wreck and has been rebuilt. CarFax is clean and does not show this massive repair. I got some inside info on it otherwise would have bought it. Just a heads up, take a chance on it if you want to. Peace. |

So to wrap this story up, I offered $39,250 for the Lemans blue M-sport. The salesperson agreed to the deal and emailed me a form to put down a credit card deposit. An hour later, he rescinded the deal and said that his GM won't sell it for less than $39,900 since someone else put that offer on the table. I held firm, and the car sold to the other guy. A bit cheesy, but that's life. I'll just have to keep on searching. |

- Sounds like you handled the deal the most fair way you you can. Usually $750 is not a deal breaker, and a little shady if the deal was agreed to by the salesperson (they backed out of an agreed deal). There will be other cars. |
