Once and for all... what's the verdict on General Exclaim UHPs?
Hey guys,
Sorry if this is an old topic, but I searched through all of the threads and there wasn't enough to make a firm decision. Most of the things mentioned about the General Exclaim UHPs were good, but I also read some bad things like, "you get what you pay for..." I like to hug corners and all that, but I wouldn't consider myself an extremely aggressive driver. I'm willing to spend up to about a grand, so I've been looking into the Falken FK-452s. However, it seems like the General's are almost as good for half the price! What's the final verdict? From what I've seen, here are the most common reviews: * Good tires regardless of price. * Good tires for the price. * Not good tires at all Thanks guys!

Here's what I have found based on weeks of research but no firsthand experience. I am trying to decide what to replace my RFTs upon redelivery in a couple of weeks:
Generals: not the best tire available but for the price, quite a bargain. They are rated all season but not recommended for anything other than light snow. The Falken 452s are strictly a summer tire. Most who are running the Generals seem quite happy especially when you factor the price. I just put a set of Falken 512s on my MINI Cooper and so far I am quite happy. They replaced a set of Toyo Proxes 4. Toyos were perhaps a bit grippier but rode a tad stiffer. The Falkens seem lighter and handle very well. For the price I am quite happy. If the Falkens are still available when I am ready I will consider them for my E93 as well as the General UHPs. I understand the Falken 512 may be discontinued but will probably be replaced with another similar HP AS tire as the 512 has been a very good seller with good reviews. If you need a tire for all seasons and light snow, the Generals would be a fine choice. You will give up a little performance but for the money, it is quite a buy. You might also want to consider the Falkens, Kumho ASX, Toyo Proxes 4 or the Avon M550. Decisons, Decisions!

im all for the general exclaim tires, theyre excellent tires, especially for the price....
everyone that says "you get what you pay for" are people that think the higher the price the better the product.... as we know thats not always right dont expect to get T1R or F1 grip, but these are as good as many UHP tires on the market.. they weigh less than almost every other tire brand.... who ever hasnt had them, know nothing about them |

I have them mounted on 19's and have had them for about 2 weeks now.
I'm used to having a summer tire only in my past cars. The grip is a little noticeable when i push it around a turn/corner. But for me, I don't always push my car to the limit, so it wasn't a huge priority on my list. What was a priority, was quietness and treadwear. They're relatively quiet compared to summer only tires, and treadwear is rated at 380 which is pretty damn good. Grip, i give it high 7's to low 8's. Unfortunately I've never had the 452's so i can't compare the two. |

Note that the Generals don't fit 18" stock rims...

Is this totally true? Or are you just saying this because TireRack's handy dandy configurer says they don't?
Any tire experts want to comment on this? Stock setup: 18x8 F and 18x8.5 R 225/40/18 F and 255/35/18 R Closest Available Generals: 225/40/18 F (meas. rim width 8") and 245/40/18 R (meas. rim width 8.5")

But, will there be any rubbing issues or physical limitations that would prevent this tire from operating correctly?

Unfortunately, I haven't been driving the car much but I'll say this: ride: The 19 generals feel a bit softer than the 18 RFTs. Noise: haven's paid attention to that yet. I usually have the Ipod a bit loud. grip: I took a few turns at higher speeds and felt the car solid and confident in the turn. In short, I'm really happy with them. You can't beat that price. I'm not an aggressive driver. I do step on it from time to time, On back twisty roads, I like to feel the turns and so far all is good. My 2 cents.

They seem to be a "Good tire for the price".

just buy them.I had them for 2 months and I loved them. For the way you drive and what you need them for they are perfect. They look really good too.The grip in the rain is maybe the best out of any tire I've ever had. You'll be happy with the savings and performance, trust me.

Thanks for all the feedback. I place my order for the Generals today. (235/35/19 fronts, 265/30/19 rears). Hopefully I'll get them mounted this weekend or early next week. I'm having some issues with my rim purchase. F*cking USPS misrouted my payment... ARGH! I'll post pics when I finally get my rims and tires on. I'll also add my own review of the Generals to this thread.
