The nav works well enough, and it's nice to have the dead reckoning. Bluetooth works well with iDrive. Also, it's nice to have the big screen to tell you what a warning icon means (via a text explanation), rather than having to figure out what the heck the icon is, and what it could possibly mean.

Ste92ve's right that you don't need iDrive, but you don't need a BMW either.
If you think you might like it, get it. I think it is fantastic.

I decided against it. I went in last night and priced it out with the guy and got it all setup. I also took out the bluetooth/assist and the power rear shade, frivilous items I don't need. I want to drive the car, not have it whipe my ass for me. I'm going over there in an hour to trade in my 325i and steal someone's canceled US delivery order so I can get my 335i Coupe like end of next month.
In the mean time I get to drive my buddy's 1992 Toyota Corolla. |

Ive gone for it, I have the old style prof nav at the moment, and all the comments are the new one is much better!
I agree that it also breaks the cockpit up a lot better!

iPod and iDrive: What are the advantages???
What exactly are the advantages of having iDrive for those of us who use an iPod in the car? Can you select any playlist on your iPod or are you still confined to just a few playlists because of the iPod integration's implementation?

As far as i can see you get all the playlists and menus normally on the ipod. I haven't tested the video stuff. But yea, it beats having to look at your ipod to change songs while your driving. Also the bluetooth phone sees all your contacts and mutes the radio when you have a call coming in and obviously the handsfree feature is useful.

Best is to to BMW's website and choose the nav option, then look at the interior picture. You can also choose interior colors and other options to see how they look (note how choosing the sport package changes the steering wheel, for example). Deselect nav and do the same.

I predict in the next 6-8 years there will be no cars made without Navs. Why in the world would you not get one?

Has anyone mentioned what Nav might do for the resale? I would have to imagine that a few years down the road people will definitely want it as it becomes more mainstream and buyers increasingly tech savy.
