Rattle at cold startup..maybe not wastegate?
I read through most of the wastegate rattle threads and I know this is common. And I know there are fixes that sometimes work.
But everything I read it seemed people get this rattle when driving? Or am I mistaken about that? When I start my car when completely cold, there's a rattle right away that lasts about 5 seconds. It just started. It only happens then at idle. Is it possible it's something else?

Would that apply even if I don't have the OEM exhaust anymore?

I find that there is a whole orchestra of different rattles, buzzes, and various other noises for the first ~90 seconds after a cold start. Once the RPMs settle to idle, the only audible noises are the pure sex coming from the exhaust and the rediculous ticking of the injectors.

If you actually shine a flashlight on the turbo actuator arm you would see at initial startup that the arm is in the "open" position. Continue to watch it and you will see it eventually close up and the rattle goes away. It's annoying, but that's what is going on. At least with my car.

I had a similar problem yesterday, a metal sounding rattle at idle. I knew exactly what it was so I put my car up on the lift and whalla, the metal exhaust support bracket came loose and was ratteling around. Try to look under your car for it while the car is idle, the location is about 1 foot down from the downpipes or directly under the shift knob. FYI, it's a 12mm bolt.

Believe me...the sounds at cold start I understand...but this was a new one. It definately feels like it's coming from under the hood. And I had heard "Wastegate" rattle so many times and having to get turbos replaced. I only had 3 months left on my warranty. So I'm thinking about whether I should fork out the cash to get the extended. I read a lot of threads on the wastegate and now that I'm seeing there's a fix...I'm not so worried about it..
