PLEASE HELP! Alpine HID angel eye kit not working
So I could really use some help on this. I bought an HID angel kit from Alpine but the driver's side angel eye will not come on. I contacted Alex about this a week agao but I haven't heard back. So I figured I would seek the expertise of fellow members. Here's the information I have:
I installed the kit fully and driver side light would not come on. I moved the ground to several different spots but no luck. I noticed if I scraped the ground terminal against a chassis stud, I would sometimes get a spark and the angel eye would come on for one second. I figured the ballast was bad so next I moved the ballast to the passenger side and connected everything. The light came on so it looked like the ballast was good. So I put that ballast back on the drivers side and the LIGHT CAME ON! The light stayed on and everything looked good. I figured I must have had a loose connection before (even though I checked everything 5 times). So I thought the problem was solved. The next morning, I start the car and the drivers side angel eye doesn't come on. I've driven the car 15 times since and the light has never come on. Oddly, two days ago I disconnected the connector coming from the ballast and plugged it back in, and the light came on for 2 seconds. I have tried that 5 times since but I can't get it to come on again. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? I really want to get this taken care of ASAP because it's embarrassing driving around with one angel eye. I buy a product to make the car look better but it just makes it worse ![]() UPDATE: i figured i would update this thread in case anyone else has the case problem i found the problem with the kit. as shown in the picture below, the ground connection in the ballast was poorly soldered. a huge ball of solder was used, which caused it to separate from the circuit board when the unit was potted with silicone. looks like whoever soldered it was extremely unexperienced. i considered resoldering it myself but i'm alittle nervous about putting the board back in my car now that it has been opened up and depotted. anyway, i will never buy an alpine product again now that i see the crappy quality of their products and how they completely ignore you once you need a warranty replacement. i attached images of the entire board as well in case anyone wants to see what the internals look like. I was having this issue a few days ago.
One ballast is designed specifically for the driver's side - the small one. MY issue, however, was the bulb itself was slightly damaged from most likely a difficult install. It would come on just about every OTHER time I tried starting it. Check the ballasts, then the bulbs.
