First HPDE new V12s vs 50 percent used PS2s
So I’m doing my first HPDE event next week
My plan was to use my DD wheel and tire setup which are 18 inches almost new Hankook V12 235F/265R on staggered style 5s , I also have available to use a set of 245/40/18 Michelin PS2 s that are about 50% used (5 to 6/32nd) on some generic 18x8.5 wheels , I would prefer to use that setup so that in case anything happens and I go off course I don’t damage my expensive wheels but I’m concern about the thread dept, opinions? I know the PS2s are better tires but are they too used? Obviously Knowing this is my first HPDE event I most likely be nowhere near the limit Thanks in advance

2/32nd is the limit on PS2's, so I wouldn't sweat it. It is the fronts that will take a beating at the track. Plus tread depth is critical for water or snow management. Since you're going to the track and assuming conditions are dry, you may be better off with less tread depth.
More about tread depth from TireRack: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=51

In theory, the PS2s are worn just the right amount, but the V12 stagger is better. In reality, it won't make any difference. If you do go off, I hope it's your wheels that get damaged rather than your roof.
![]() edit: I remember now you asked almost the same question last week, and also at Bimmerforums. Seriously, stop worrying about it. Last edited by GaryS; 08-08-2011 at 01:56 PM.. |
