335d first impressions w and w/o JB tuner
I recently took delivery of a 2010 335d with about 14k miles on the clock. Previously I had only driven a 2011 model at my local Carmax. I had them order this one up from Duarte California as a result.
First off I own a BMW shop and have had some very heavily modified cars. My E46 M3 was well equipped with Brembo's, VF stage 2 supercharger and all the extras. I was coming off this car and a 2010 Cooper S which as also heavily modified. I wanted a car that could cover both reasonably well. The 335d seemd to have the torque, fun factor and mileage combination I needed. The high points are the power, and the level of electronics with respect to my iPhone, Sirius, etc. Though I had originally planned to drive the car untouched I quickly gave in and ordered a set of Eibach springs, Koni yellows and Apex wheels. Additionally a JB tuner was ordered but left off until recently. I really really love the car. It is stylish, fast and smooth. My only issue was with the very slow initial pull from a stop. Upon installing the JB tuner at the stock 65% setting I was surprised to find that my "dead" spot was completely gone and that it pulled very strong from the start. The car is perfect now IMO - I had the opportunity to buy an E90 M3 but chose this instead, I still think I made the right choice. Driving to Tracy to see my parents I was able to eek out 38MPG at 70mph. ![]() Last edited by norcal_cyclist; 08-08-2011 at 03:05 PM.. |

Congrats on your d, looks great, love the color too. I was in a similar position when I decided to buy the d. Options were narrowed down between the e90 m3, CTS-V and C63. Yes I sacraficed in some areas by choosing the d, but it makes up for it in many other ways, do a few mods and it's even better!

I know this has been asked before, but the JBD tuner doesn't affect emissions (in particular, CA smog) or warranty, does it? The 335d isn't lacking for power, but more is always good.

Hmmm me too but the bulk of American drivers would cook the clutch in a month with that much torque.. ![]() |
