new oil cooler non-sport package
Is there anyway to argue getting an oil cooler for free for my 335i sedan with premium package but not sport package? Has anyone been able to do it yet?
I live in South Florida and about 10 minutes or less of driving puts me in the 270 degree range on my oil temp(the car says outside temp as 84-87 but in actuality it runs about 93-97 according to the news)...I doubt thats healthy for my engine life, besides I drive my car pretty hard. So does anyone think its possible to get an oil cooler? And if so, how should I argue it?

Irregardless I think all 335's need the extra oil cooler. I hope you get one asap. Try to document the high temps (with camera and video if possible) and any limp modes if they occur. |

You can always contact BMWNA and try talking them into doing it, BUT as far as I know they said: "Absolutely No Oil Coolers for Non Sport Pakcage 335!"
But again, it wouldn't hurt to try....

The N54 engine was designed to include the oil cooler, at least according to BMW. The cooling requirement of the engine clearly is not a function of sport seats, wheels, etc.

called bmwna and they say the same "no retrofit for non sport 335i" but the representative i talked to hinted at there might being an oil cooler in the future.
then i called my local bmw and the service department hadn't even heard of the retrofit LOL...then i told him the story and he said "well if bmwusa doesnt approve it, then i cant do it" i haven't hit limp mode yet because of temp....but my car still runs 270 - 280 oil temps which worries me. anyone think if i can hit limp mode and document it with a photo/video then i can claim for a cooler under the warranty? i think thats a pretty good claim: your are ruining my driving experience by not properly fitting my vehicle off of the production line. how will i know i hit limp mode? and from those who have hit it about how long of a drive did it take you/what temp was it outside?

how about this for you.
Had one of BMWNAs cars in the shop this week. E93 (10/06 production), auto with no oil cooler. Sport package. The owner claimed the car hit limp mode and oil temps were way too high. THE OWNER!!!!! He works for friggin BMW himself!!!! So what did we do? Submit a case to PuMA.....they told us its normal and not to do anything about it. I swear I think BMW corporate is talking or chasing their tail in circles here. They are telling their own people its ok lol. |

not good that bmw treats their customers today with little importance...sacrificing "the ultimate driving machine" 's experience to save a couple of bucks...everyone nowadays are money-grabbers

I wish BMW would stop this BS and outfit all 335's with the extra damn oil cooler (sport or not) (Auto or Manual). BMW calls itself the Ultimate Driving Machine. BMW owners shouldn't have to wait for a known issue to surface and then beg to have the correct parts installed.

Call BMWNA. You mention oil cooler they automatically take your name and number. Do not bother explaining anything to the first guy at BMWNA, he is just there to refer you to someone else. You get a call back in a couple days. This is the guy you have to convince! Best of luck.

Very unfortunate for you and others like you. Probably wished you knew about this before you ordered the ride. ...anyways....good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

I believe all 335 in countries other then the US and Canada get the external oil to air cooler. Run this search http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...+cooler+mexico and the 26th post shows a non sport step with a cooler in Mexico. If you go to www.realoem.com and check the parts lists for a European and US car you will see all Non US/Canada cars get the cooler and only US sport with manuals get the coolers. After you select model and production date select radiator from the list. The first item shown is the oil cooler for the automatic transmission. Further down is the engine oil cooler. If you click on this it will show the parts list and what cars get it. This changed in March for sports with step. Older cars with step and sport are getting the retro fit. Also do a search here for oil cooler since there is a lot of information on this subject. One shows BMW documentation referencing the external oil to air cooler for the N54 engine. I hope this helps.

Non sports package steptronic/no oil cooler

BTW...I know for a fact that BMWNA watches these bimmer posts like a bunch of East Germans before the wall fell...be careful what you say...especially if your discussing mods that will void your warranty. They may use your post against you in a court of law. Have fun...drive fast...here's hoping the engines on all 335i's automatics w/o sports package blow up and forces BMW to address this issue. |
