2009 320D - First Service - How much and whats done

Hi,

I need to get a first service done on my 59 320D coupe with only 13,800 miles. I'm living in the Richmond Surrey area. How much should the service cost and what needs to be done, as far as i can tell its an oil change and brake fluid....

I think my dad paid £350ish for his first one on his 120d coupe, that was at 18k and at 2yrs and did include the brake fluid change along with oil and micro filter.

First service at under 14k sounds early - all the 3 series I have had have been nearer 20k before first service?

An oil and brake fluid change is coming out at about £350 with BMW. They also mentioned that the micro filter might need to be changed, what is it and would it need to be changed at 14,000 miles.

microfilter is just the pollen filter into the cabin. Very cheap to replace, and not to get mixed up with the air filter which BMW will charge £70 or so to replace..

Cheers, i presume i could get a micro filter from halfords etc but how do i reset the service indicator myself if i fit it. BMW are charging £65 for the micro filter...

Why do people insist on being ripped off by main dealers ?, all you are paying for is the fancy shop front and the glossy brochure they put your huge bill in, Im sure an independent garage would do that for half the price

I have a 59 320D with about 17500 miles and it's going into a Main Dealer next week for a brake system oil change, because the onboard info tells me to.
It dos'nt mention anything else, but I am also having an engine oil & filter change, as I am a bit worried about some of my shortish journeys.
I know it is going to cost me, but if the motors under three years old I think it worthwhile to use a Main Dealer.
I can recall when I sold my last BMW, the buyer and a couple of others did ask me: 'Did you have it serviced at a Main Dealers?'
It's so nice to say: 'Yes!'

If they are living in the real word they'll know that it doesnt matter if the car was serviced by a main dealer or independent garage as long as it was serviced and you have records to prove it.Work carried out by main dealers is no better than that done by Independents. At the end of the day if you look past the fancy shopfront and glossy brochures what you get at a main dealer is the same as what you will get at an independent garage, an individual working on your car who can be good or bad.

Some might be living in the 'real world', but some out there, as per my above post, do still have confidence in the BMW Main Dealer knowing that at least they will have the right equipment to do the job and trained staff.
In any case, an 'independent garage' with possibly a grease monkey running around, without the right equipment messing about with my motor costing me near 30/40G? You must be joking!
I certainly would rather buy and have my motor serviced in a smart professional showroom, browse the glossy brochures, than in a rundown independent garage browsing the Sun.
But for sure, if you buy your motor for just a few grand and its well out of warranty, Yup, an 'independent', possibly! You takes your choice!

I had my 2yr old Megane serviced by a renault main dealer in 2002 just after buying the car. When I got home I checked the oil level and it had been overfilled by 3/4 litre.I brought the car back and the excuse I was given was that the boss' son had been helping out and had put too much oil in my car.The boss' son was about 16 and wasnt a mechanic nor a trainee mechanic. Unprofessionalism goes on at main dealers as well as independent garages

How can you possibly compare a Renault main dealership with a BMW
main dealership? The difference is chalk and cheese man!
In any case I have never ever taken seriously Renault cars or for that matter any French mass motor manufacturer!
This possibly goes back to the day, some years ago, when I lent on the wing of a Citreon car and I dented it! The thickness of the metal was wafer thin.
But perhaps nowadays I have some re-learning to do as I suppose now they are all soooo good!

For my first service on a 330D I paid £190 and supplied my own oil, it was £308 with their oil! Your 320D should be cheaper I would have thought.

Independent - all ex Sytner fully trained mechanics, brake fluid service, oil service and inspection service all for £150

Sytner where they worked before quoted over £350

The service ended up costing me £300 and i bargained them down to that. The service covered an oil, brake and microfilter change all supplied by them.
