Meth/water ratio
A little write up i came across discussing the benefits of both methanol and water individually and in essence, together. It is in support of an 80/20 mix according to the its reasonings.
http://rusubaru.com/how-much-alcohol-methanol/ In order to run say a 75/25 mix, can anyone meanwhile advise me of the proper calculations according to the WEIGHTS of both water and methanol, as it is the proper way to measure as opposed to fluid VOLUME. thank you

no problem, i thought it was moderately valuable in information and was in cookie cutter terms so it was useful.

Just FYI for you track guys. Certain groups like NASA & NCRC will only let you run a 50/50 mix.

Yes they do, but for people like me with lots of integrity, it's hard to lie to them. I just show them my boost juice containter if they ask.
I run x2 1.0mm nozzels either 50/50 daily/track or 75/25 for drag.

i was informed by a buddy that it is calculated by weight. no matter what ratio, it is done my weight lets say, per gallon, not by actual ml or whatever measurement you choose use for example

meth has a specific gravity of .792 & water 1. This means that by WEIGHT, you create a 45/55 water meth mix when you make a 50/50 water/meth mix by VOLUME. 5% increase in meth content is probably a good safety margin any way, as it will help to ensure that you have at least the minimum octane you are tuned for without making the solution excessively corrosive. So water 1kg/ltr Methanol 0.79kg/ltr So 5.2kg = 5.2 litres water 5.2kg = 6.6 litres methanol = 50/50% mix.

Interesting info. The only question I have is that it states 80/20 is ideal when using 50/50 gas to meth mix ratio. Does anyone know how much meth Procede uses at its most aggressive state? I can't imagine it being that high. Based on posts about meth use on a track, I'd guess the highest gas/meth mix ratio to be about 75/25.

in alcohol injection systems with larger nozzles, it is easy to go overboard with too much water (more than 10-15% of total fuel), contaminate the oil and cause damage to the engine. When using 80/20 mix of alcohol/water, you can inject 50% gasoline and 50% 80/20 alcohol/water mix – and the amount of water will be a perfect 10% of the total fuel. Alcohol will add its own water to the mix upon combustion, but you will still be safe and under 15% water to total fuel ratio. If 75/25 is the max gas + injection mixture, and you're using 50/50 mix, then it appears that you would actually be running 12.5% water (25/2), which would actually fall in their "contamination" range. |

I think ultimately if tuned correctly 100% meth will give you the most power. Adding water slows burn, but also would change peak pressure. I think meth and water have similar evaporation cooling effects. The only power adder from water is increasing dynamic compression ratio, but you are loosing heat energy potential. Not sure if the article is very accurate.
