Can all of the US mods please stay out of our boards
First of all please don't take offence. And by take offence I mean I'd rather not myself now get banned for simply speaking my mind. It's not a nation state this board after all
So then. We are British. We understand eachother. We look after our own section with the help of Tony. We don't want to start a war because someone said "shit". You guys often seem to seriously overreact to anything that is reported. We don't need you to do this. If you feel we need further moderation please could you appoint a new UK mod (Ask Tony and Viv for suggestions) rather than wade in to a debate you don't really understand (As understandably: You don't often read our section, as you aren't from the UK) and make snap decisions. A very senior and well respected member was recently unfairly banned for a month for replying to a very aggressive newly registered member who signed up purely to self promote and then p*ssed off half of this board. We all knew who was in the wrong, but without following the thread properly: The wrong person got banned based off a single profanity in a single post. It was patently obvious that the thread in it's entirety was not read. Context is everything. There are other examples of unnecessary infractions or post deletions. All in all... It's not on, nor is it needed. As said: Please leave our section to us. Or alternatively, if you think we have gone rogue: Allow the current UK mods to appoint an additional UK mod. Thanks Dave

No. Although now he's done what he registered to do, I'd be surprised if he came back anyway. That is: Until E90post next comes up in a google search for "glass repair" or etc..

You have to bear in mind that, despite the approximately similar language, Americans and British really are different societies.
A large number of Americans (though a very small percentage of the total) still believe the Earth is flat, a slightly larger percentage believes the Earth to be the centre of the universe. Even more believe the earth to be approx. 4,400 years old and that the world wide evidence of great age is a trick by the All-Mighty to teach smarty pant scientists a lesson. I could go on with their strange beliefs but there is no real point except to note that they can say the same things about us, but in reverse. |

I will be closing this thread, not because the views expressed are heinous or rude, but because it serves no purpose other than to create annoyance in the site owners and moderators.
People must remember that this forum is owned by Jason and Mark and is a US-run entity. Whilst they have had the good nature to appoint UK moderators to look after a continuously growing community over here, it remains their project and if they choose to ban someone because of language then they can and they will, regardless of context or content. It is unfortunate that a UK moderator was not able to intervene before Jason himself did, and perhaps things might have turned out differently, perhaps not, but that is the way it goes sometimes. The bottom line is that the forum rules are the forum rules, regardless of where one community is based and if you want to be part of this forum community then the rules must be followed. Viv and I allow a degree of latitude as it is true that many times context and inference create different tones of language and comprehension between UK and US cultures. However calling someone a c**t is the same whether you are a Londoner or a New Yorker. SteveA might have been provoked, he might have been correct in his thought process, but he contravened a rule that the US owners view very seriously. That is their prerogative. Steve has been banned and I will not be overturning it. He will be back in 30 days and the forum will continue to run as normal despite his absence. The context and people around that will be dealt with separately. And just as an aside to Mega - what YOU think are unnecessary or frivolous infractions aren't really important to the owners, nor the moderators, nor me. Yes, you have had posts edited and removed, normally by ME, because sometimes you post in a way that incites a negative reaction. You'll have to learn to deal with the fact that you get moderated and sorry to say this, but tough if you don't like it. And just to let you know, 95% of the moderation in the UK section is done by Viv or I, not any of the other moderators. The UK community has been running well for five years, and whilst it has its ups and downs, it remains a very stable and friendly community.

As Tony has said, Mark & Jason run & own the forum as a whole & they are based in the US. Ultimately, it is their decision as to what they choose to do, whether that affects the UK section or another one.
It really isn't going to help matters by 'having a go' at them. If Tony & I know of problems occurring, then we can do something about it. However, we aren't around to monitor posts at all times, so it would help if members could let us know when threads may start getting out of hand. I do have to give my apologies for not being around as much as I'd like, but I can still be contacted, if there are any problems, ok. Best wishes & try to stay friendly, even with Will. Viv |
