Winter tire dilemma

I have a 2008 335xi coupe, I have the stock 18’’ 189 style OEM rims, the current bridgestone RF tires look pretty good and I think I can get two more seasons out of them…

I need to get winter tires and people have advised to get winter rims aswell. I also would like to get nice summer rims, I really want the 313s 19’’. The dilemma is I don’t want to drop $4000, and get a winter package and then upgrade the summer rims and get new tires.

So I believe I have got a solution:

I am thinking of buying a winter tire/rim package, 18’’ 313 replicas rim and tires (I will get the same size rims as the OEMs, they won’t be 19’’ but o well) and I will swap the summer tires and put them on the 313s and will get winters on my stock 18 OEMs.

Few things to think about, and would like to hear others people perspectives:

I called a tire store they told me you will be fine with 225/40s all 4 for winter, rear will stretch a little but your fine – is that Ok?

Also will the 313 – 18 inch rims look good?

225/40 will work fine and be slightly stretched on the rear OEM wheel.

I prefer the look of the 313 style in the 19" size and with a drop. Rim design makes the wheel look smaller than it is.

thats what I am affraid of..

the 18'' M6 Replicas look pretty good - but the design is a bit different

if I get 19s then my RF summer tires go to waste and I have spend more money to get summers for 19

Yeah but you get much better ride and less noise as well.

You can always save them to put back on the OEM wheels if you sell the car.

AWD - Winter Tires

Unless you live in a state that had a sh@t ton of snow, a dedicated winter tire for an AWD car is sort of a waste of money. No offense.

I could totally see having a winter tire for an i.

Michelin pilot a/s sport plus or continental DWS extreme are consistently rated the two highest tires on tire rack. Michelin is rated highest for dry and wet conditions while the continental is rated higher in snow and almost as high in the wet.

225/45-17 all around. Why do you care what the wheel looks like on a dedicated Winter setup? TireRack sells a 17" wheel that fits or you can find a used oe 17" wheelset to mount some snows on.
