2011 335XI overheating
hey guys,
i have a 2011 335xi that hit over 120C (248 farenheit) today... i was just in traffic... wasnt driving hard at all and the temps outside were max 25C do i have a cause of concern? i've driven the vehicle for 15000kms and this is the first time it has passed 120C... it went to probably 130C before dropping below 120C Richard |

25c is 77f -
248 farenheit is normal - in stop and go traffic i see my temp rise a bit here in LA. when in doubt, ur bimmer is under warranty, u can always go the dealer. - I believe ur fine. let us know if it goes any further than 130C

Has the car ever gone into limp mode because of heat? Your range seems normal though. If it goes higher and stays there while your in constant speed then you may have an issue.

Sloppy: it's never gone in limp mode... however... i just checked... it never did go above 130C which i thought it did.. it went past 120C but in between 120C and 130C and then died down before 120C
so i guess all is fine.. just surprising that it went over 120C in traffic... and the vehicle wasnt even on for a long time... imagine if i were at the track.. this car would explode... and i am unsure even if my car has an oil cooler |

Where are you getting those temps from? It's important to note we're talking oil temp and not water temp as well. Obviously you can't have a water temp that high. A quick Google search will reveal 250 is a norm oil temp on the 335

I've been noticing the same temps in traffic w/ AC on. Of course this is a perfect storm for heating the engine.
By comparison my c6 corvette never got above 200f in the same conditions and driving around (with moving air) settled around 180-185f. Though that was partly due to the colder t-stat that was installed along with my tune and headers....oh and it's n/a. F.I. cars run hotter I believe. |

Hopefully the feature is still there on the N55. Give it a try! |
