Hurricane Irene - UP YOURS !!!!

For those who are riding it out - Be safe guys
a few things i thought you should look out for

Preparation is the key and you cant go wrong with it

buying candles or any light source in case of a black out
Park your car away from a tree or at the corner of the block ( unless you want insurance to take care of you =X haha)
Have some extra cash on you
pack light food to last at least two days
battery radio

Add on to the list if you want

Let hope for the best and the least minimum damages !

STAY SAFE !

Full tank of gas in the car in case gas stations are down or you need to move.

Put some tape on your windows, especially on the windward sides of your house/apt. An "X" is sufficient to prevent them from exploding and large glass pieces flying at you.

Fill up some containers with water in case the water pumps shut down and you can't flush your toilet.

If you are going to use candles as a source of light, it's always a smart idea to check your smoke alarms, make sure they are working, in case you fall asleep with a candle on.

Fully charge all battery operated devices.

I fully charged all laptops, iPads, phones, cameras, etc.

Laptops/ipads/phones can serve as a source of light during a blackout.
With 2-3 laptops, you can get around 12-16 hours of light is you just leave it on in a room without any usage.

Cameras... well you don't want to miss the action.

Agreed in full. Everyone please be careful and don't go outside unless you need to. I'm a fire medic with the East Meadow Fire department and the last thing i need is to get a call with any of you.

Stay Safe guys

The only thing people should prepare for is power outage and water pumps being out for a while. That's the worst that could happen if you stay inside.

If you go out, a tree might land on your head then we have to hear about how Irene killed X amount of people.... who were probably outside or storm chasing. :roll eyes:

It's a category 1 people. Just stay inside and relax, you're not going to die.
