If anyone has this exhaust can you shed some light on it? Is it really worth the price tag? I have a 328i and I wanted to add some spice to my car with sound since its pretty quiet. I'm not really interested with the performance, although having the extra 3-5 hp or whatever it is advertised as would be pretty sweet (if its even true). Bottom line, if anyone can give some reviews on this exhaust it would be really appreciated.

It's worth it, really. Especially if you are not a risk taker and do not want "surprises" like droning, bad fitment, etc. from an aftermarket exhaust.

The exhaust is expensive but quality is on par with the best aftermarket systems, fitment is 100% perfect and the sound is about as perfect as can be expected. There is no droning or harshness anywhere in the rev band. After all, some nerdy sorts at BMW signed of on this before it was allowed out the door. The sound is very rich, with a very "full" tone to it. Some aftermarket systems sound a bit tinny and hollow somehow, not this. The only downside I can see is the expense...

My thoughts based on my experiences with the PE for the last 6 months or so:

1. Once it's warmed up it sounds awesome (you'll be seeking out tunnels and underpasses everywhere), especially at full tilt

2. Mine sounds rugged on start up (before the engine revs have settled to normal idle), which is a little embarrassing with a new passenger because it almost sounds like I have a hole in my exhaust. However, once it warms up it's as sweet as can be.

3. Check out some pictures because the tips stick out farther than stock, and sit about a half inch lower. I like the look, but others do not. If you don't like it I think you could remedy it with new tips.

4. It's really expensive, but, with my low mileage car and a motor (N54) prone to all sorts of issues I did not want the worry of haggling with a dealer over whether the exhaust caused an engine issue (as unfounded as it may be), so to me the premium is worth the piece of mind.

5. I do get a slight drone with cruise control on when I start up a hill and the throttle kicks in, but for the most part, it's fine. When the cars' in for servicing next I'm going to ask them to look over the system to make sure everything's in line.

Bottom line: 2 thumbs up from me.

Exact same thing with my stock exhaust and the exhaust actuator/valve disabled. The PE exhaust doesn't have this valve, so I doubt there's any problem with your installation. There is a slight droning when going up a hill with constant throttle. It was annoying at first but I'm getting used to it.

I do agree with the cold start, it's loud! I already asked shiv to program the warm up cycle out... I hope it can be done one day, then it the combination is a killer.

Be aware you might spend quite some time in tunnels after the installation... almost childish LOL

the PE was my second mod when i had the car. i have no regret on burning that much money onto it. PE has it's own unique sound which other exhaust systems cannot reproduce.

Some have written the disabling of the actuator has a negative effect on low end torque due to reduced back pressure, but I have yet to confirm this from a BMW service tech. My guess is you haven't had any problems?

Yes that's probably correct, but the amount is negligible and in return you get a negligible amount of hp. If you think about it, all aftermarket exhausts don't have this actuator.

OP, you posted in the wrong section; you got a NA N52, not a Turbo N54.

You wont regret the PE. Treat yourself and get a nice set of tips and pay an indie shop to fit the exhaust and tips to your liking.

Because out of the box, the PE tips are fugly and they stick out like 2-3 inches.

I had Cyba dark chrome 3" tips welded to my PE and they sit almost flush to the bumper; looks amazing. And true that about tunnels and underpass; you cant let go the opportunity to downshift and give that smile back

Yea definitely worth it for the N52 because the stock exhaust is so quiet...zzzzzzzzzz .. I almost snoozed driving the dealer's e90 328xi

335i stock is pretty loud already, plus the actuator/valve disable it's more than enough for me

Sounds sweet on a N54. Not too loud at low RPM's, but wails nicely if you punch it. It isn't any more than a high quality aftermarket exhaust. Best thing is BMW can't make any issues regarding its use.

That is a false statement. On a Turbo vehicle, back pressure effects horsepower/torque at all levels. You want to the get the exhaust through and away from the turbo the fastest you can. The more air flow the turbo gets the more power you create.

On a N52, there is probably so much backpressure in the stock headers, the exhuast wouldn't even affect it.
