Transmission 2004 330Xi

Just had a used engine put in my BMW. It ran great for a couple of days, then while driving the car, it suddenly acted like it was in nuetral and wouldn't go into any gear. We rolled the car about 25 feet to get it out of the road. We had it towed on a rollback to the garage that put in the new motor, and they said the rear brake calipers were stuck, but as soon as it was put on the lift, they said they un-stuck. They said the car was driving fine and going into gear fine. My questions: What would cause the car not to go into any gear??? What would cause the rear brake calipers to stick?? We could roll the car before they put it on the rollback. Would putting the car on a rolback cause the calipers to stick? Why did the transmission start working all of a sudden???

Low tranny oil will cause the car not go into gear, also worn out shifting solenoids. Calipers usually do not lock up, unless there is a bind on the cable. Or if the pads just happened to siezed up on the rotors, very rare (they got to be really hot). I would check and make sure that you have suffecient fluid in the tranny, some cars have to have the engine running to properly check the tranny fluid. Let me know if you have any other ???.
