Headlight confusion!
Please Please someone help me figure this out, I've have looked at that many different post but none seem to make it clear one way or the other :
I have a 2006 pre lci 320d M Sport which has the pre lci halogen headlights & to be totally frank they are piss poor. Now..... I've always been a big fan of Xenon headlights as they look fantastic & the light output is amazing. My questions are : If i wanted to change from the OEM pre lci halogen to say the OEM non adaptive xenons from a 2009 e90 , other than the headlights / the ballasts & the bulbs what else would be required to get them fully functioning on my car ? I hear so much talk about car needing to be coded & extra wiring needs doing? My next question : If for some reason OEM pre lci halogen to OEM xenon is too difficult, then what is the best alternative to the OEM xenons? , I keep reading about depo projector headlights with hid kit fitted & some other brands. Would these third party projector headlights be plug & play & would the quality of the angel eyes / xenons be a close match for OEM ones ? Any help here would be fantastic. Also if anyone can reccomend someone in the west midlands are who could fit / wire up OEM or third party headlights at reasonable price that would be greatly appreciated? Cheers Phil |

This one has been done to death do a search you'll find lots of threads on it.
Basically if you fit xenon headlamps along with the ballasts ect you will need headlamp washers and self levelling control which is the tricky bit as there are two axle level sensors on both front and rear nearside...this all of course is to make it legal...I'm sure it can be done but it may fail an mot in the future without the levelling... could be easier to change the car!

Yeah there are lots of threads about it but each one seems to contradict each other.
As for fitting washers / self levelling etc... well i'm not too concerned about getting that done as for the moment until they change the mot rules there are loads of people with retrofitted xenons that pass mot fine. Basically I just want to try & get rid of these crappy halogen headlights & install working xenon headlights. |
