need Physical Therapist... asap

hey guys.... I've had chronic tennis elbow for the past year.... ever since I've worked int he medical field pretty much... anyways... i was wondering if anyone here is a physical therapist... and can help me out... i was told by my doc that i need surgery but i really don't want to do it... i think all i need is some electrical stim and ultra sound on my arm... or basically a new set of arm would be just as good lol.. but if there is anyone that can help me out let me know thanks... and i managed to make this thread as an event lol... that is how bad my elbow has become lol

Have you gotten an MRI? Any tears or just tendonitis? Best thing for you to do is to actually go see a physical therapist a few times so you get a nice list of exercises to do and rest if your elbow issues are actually from tennis. I used to have tendonitis when I played tennis, but that went away once I gave it up. In feb, I tore my ACL and both medial and lateral meniscus in my knee and the rehab definitely helps. For your case, I would just see what exercises the PT suggests and go from there.

If you are dealing with chronic tendinitis I would strongly suggest a conservative PT as opposed to one that loads you up with repetitive exercises, the things that cause the irritation in overuse injuries such as this. E-stim and ultrasound will play ONLY a miniscule portion of potential recovery. Its the active portion on your part of rest, ice, ranging it, and general activity decreases for sometimes a few weeks that are going to help this. Not stim and ultrasound.

If you haven't done so already a regular regime of rest, range of motion exercises(light stretching etc) coulpled with ice and your preferred NSAID of choice(Aleve or Ibu are very common) for at least a couple of weeks and NO ACTIVITY that flares it up is typically what helps to improve chronic cases.... I speak from a clinicians experience in this field.

Rest hard my friend. If you have questions, I would be happy to give you some ideas.

thank you for the informative reply.. i'm on a regimen of naproxen 750mg with prn celebrex...i do stretches and ice after wards... every morning and night... then i go to work and have 21 patients i have to take care off... i do need to find out what kind of effective exercises i can do to improve my arm.. it's getting to a point where i need to rest my arm after writing for 5 minutes and with my line of work it's all about writing... by the time i'm done with working my arm hurts like hell that i shift my car with my right hand and knee pressure on the steering wheel... if you can maybe send me some sort of exercises that i can do that would be really awesome man.. thanks again..

I would suggest going to see another doctor and get a different opinion. I strongly suggest that. If both suggest surgery, I would then see a PT before hand.

the md i 've been seeing gave me two cortisone shots and said that if it gets worst after the second shot then i need surgery... and this md is supposed to be the best around the area... idk even know any other sports medicine group around north bergen area that can compete with this group...

correct. Normally a MD does not give more than 2 shots..and the cortisone shot is suppose to alleviate the pain as it stays in the system for a good week or two. If you still have pain after the shot.. PT/OT can not further help you. It can put a band-aid on the pain but at the long end it's going to continue.

I know this b/c I have tennis elbow.
