Question Regarding Moving/Working in Canada (Vancouver)
Hello all,
I just figured I'd give this a shot in the dark as maybe someone here might provide me insight. I am a US Citizen, with a background in I.T. for past 2-3 years with a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Business and Information Systems. I have become highly interested in moving to Vancouver, but wanted to know how difficult it would be to gain employment there. Thanks for any responses. |

^^ difficult question. Although the economy is not that great nowadays, there are jobs out there. If you are just moving to Vancouver or any city as a matter of fact, the key principle in finding a job is still networking. Do you know anyone in the industry that can get you "through the doors" ? For Vancouver, the BI (Business Intelligence) industry is fairly established and you can find some good work out there dealing with Crystal reports, data warehousing and ETL related work. My suggestion is to apply before moving, considering you are a US Citizen, probably need a working visa as well. Some companies will fly you in or even do telephone interviews. This way you have a safe haven prior to moving.
Good luck. Moving to a new country is always challenging. I, myself, am looking to move to Denmark so in the same boat . |

Fo IT jobs, Toronto is the place. You definitely have an asset if you actually understand business concepts as most IT professionals do not think that way. All the IT guys I dealt with were good at what they were doing but yo literally had to explain them every possible outcome of whatever they have to program. They can't seem to understand business logic
Vancouver is not that big in IT plus you'll have competition for the work available. And if you are used to pay mortgage in US and you like sunny weather, you will HATE it here. It's beautiful in the summer though....
