I added it when I received a warning to add 1 quart. After a few weeks I received the warning again but it was prob a glitch cause I have not received it again in a few days. Bottom line I only add it if the warning comes up and a logical amt of period has passed. Not have a standard dipstick sucks though.

I've never had to top off - change oil every 5,000-7000kms depending on how "intense" I drove the car. Broke it in per exact manual instructions for whatever its worth - has been tuned & FBO ex meth since about 5,000kms

all cars, especially forced induction cars have blow by. If you had an air oil seperator, you would notice it less. Your car is going to burn oil, so make sure you check your levels.

I had to add a quart at about 4,500 miles. Had the same thing happen with a N52 moter. Seems like both engines needed oil during break in. Haven't had any issue since. I am at about 26,000 and I check at least weekly. I change the oil every 7,500. I have been thinking about goint to 5,000 mile changes, but speaking to a number of people who are in the know, both BMW Techs and independent mechanics, they say 7,500 is fine with full synthetic.

unless you drive over 20,000km in a few weeks, your car should not need to top off so soon.

my car has ~42,000km and it has only been topped off once around the ~22,000+km. even then the oil gauge shows it is still half-full, but I top it off just to be safe.
