Front Bushings Warranty Question
OK, so I take my 335i for its first scheduled service and I let then know to check the front bushings that I think there is something wrong with them.
The service guy that is taking my car instantly tells me that "if the bushings are worn that is not covered under warranty", so I let him know that when I bought the car the only thing they told me that is not covered under warranty is the wheels and tires. So he tells me , "Oh yes, it is written in your owners manual, and then he shows me what looked like a copy of the service manual in his computer and shows me where it specifically says that. Also, he mentions to me that this practice has been ongoing by BMW for at least the past four years, and that is also not covered in at least 29 other states including Puerto Rico. Now, It was a little weird for me that he had that information all to quickly to show me, so, I decided to read the owners manual and the warranty manual, and Guess What?, it doesn't say ANYWHERE that the bushing are not covered under warranty. Now, my car is less than a year old. Has anyone read anything about bushings specifically not being covered by any reason in any State. This is not a question or thread for what I think or anyone thinks if it should be or not under warranty. I am just looking for facts that states that I am covered or not covered. Thanks, Again!! |

That is odd! Bushings should be covered.... Mine were replaced under a TSB a few months ago.

I'm out of warranty and now under CPO extended warranty. Went to the dealership. Said my bushings were bad too. $700+ quote. I declined. Upgraded to M3 control arms/wishbones for $405 installed myself. Car handles way better.
Here's the kicker... My bushings were never bad to begin with. Freaking dealership! On a positive note, I'm glad I upgraded nonetheless. |

There is this catch-all in my warranty booklet for my '08 335i:
Items which are subject to wear and tear or deterioration due to driving habits or conditions, such as brake pads/linings, brake discs, clutch disc, pressure plate, filters, upholstery, trim and chrome items, paint finish, drive belts, glass, and similar items, are specifically limited to defects in material or workmanship. I could see a dealer claiming a bushing is a 'wear and tear' item, but on such a new car, wear and tear on a bushing is highly unlikely unless you are doing some serious flogging out there.
