Mods friendly insurance companies

Assuming everyone declares all their mods, ehem, which insurance companies have you found to - (a) not pull your pants down on the premium increase - (b) understand what the modification actually are, without being put on hold 'while I ask my supervisor what the hell a diffuser is.'

My present insurer refused to cover me if I replaced my springs (1 broken) with a set of Eibachs!

I hope to be getting a 335d (or i) in the near future and a remap, maybe LSDiff won't be far behind, if funds allow.

Admiral, Bell and Elephant all seem pretty reasonable. I have declared mods with both Admiral and Bell before and Elephant is also part of the same company. You can get quotes online and list mods in the quote to give you an idea. It's always worth a try.

Insured my re-mapped 335d with LV online, were actually cheaper than I was paying for it with another company while it was standard! Seem hassle free so far and website has a whole list of modifications you can select and the modifucations are listed in the paper work I received so they cannot claim they had made a mistake/ didn't know about mods.

Stay away from Halifax insurance, want to charge for every little thing and were useless when I wanted to get the car re-mapped.

Yep, another Admiral customer here - see my signature, but they are reasonable about my mods.

Aviva, on the other hand, wanted £8000!!!!! I kid thee not. Admiral? £350 to you, Sir, with the same specs. Don't get the Aviva deal!

Mike.

Remember with The Admiral Group, they will insure your car with mods but they won't insure your mods. Meaning, that lovely aftermarket exhaust you have that got bent when someone rear ended you will be replaced with an OE exhaust. As for the price of their premiums, very very good and they handle claims well in my experience.

If you want your mods insured on a like for like basis then I suggest Adrian Flux, Chris Knott (if you're over 30) or Brent Acre. Beware Greenlight, they have been found to trawl forums and catch out any of you who have left the odd mod here and there off of the policy...
