military sales program questions.
Hi,
I've recently heard about the military sales program and want to know from folks who have experience and/or are familiar with it. A few questions: Once the car is shipped to your specified dealer who will hand it over to you, will they be the ones responsible for any blemishes or imperfections on the car? (should there be any that is) State sales tax. Do you pay one lump sum once delivery has been taken? And is payment of sales tax taken care of at the DMV? How does financing work with such programs? and when does payment for the car start...upon delivery at the local dealership? Registration and other paper work normally done with the traditional car buying method...(is that taken care of with the delivery dealership or w/ the poc through the program?) ...Just a few general questions. Thanks in advance. -J |

The state charges are assessed at your DMV/MVA. Import fees, luxury tax, brokerage fees are your responsibility throughout the ordering/shipping process. Pentagon Car Sales (PCS) has a $2150 option that, if you choose, delivers your car to the dealer of your choice, taking care of any fees along the way. I chose this option because the total of import fees, shipping, brokerage fees, etc. came up to a little more. Plus, its less hassle for a returning service member. Financing for PCS involves a 12% payment at time of order (for stateside delivery) and full payment when you receive your VIN, which is approx two weeks before production. I got mine yesterday. :rocks: The dealer where you pickup your car will follow the same registration routine as usual. Hope that helps, and lets all get home safe!

Thanks for the replies!
Iceberg, I've currently been trading emails with Superior Motors Military Sales Program (www.superiormotorsmsp.com). I think its the same type of service as Pentagon Car Sales. (correct me if im wrong). Or better yet, have you heard of or are familar with Superior...as far as service and reliability? Anyhow, I was given a quote for my configuration and also given the stateside delivery option of $2150. So when you recieve your VIN you must provide full payment....how long does it generally take from the time the VIN is issued until delivery? It sounds like I will start making payments for the car prior to delivery? is that correct? -J |

J,
Glad to help. There was a string of threads on this site for a while, where people were listing the important dates in their order (inc. order, VIN, and delivery). By going through the threads, I calc'd that the VIN comes two weeks prior to productions (confirmed by my CA), then production takes about a week or two, then crossing the Atlantic can take 10-21 days. There are two variables in there that are all over the map: 1) the time the car sits at port prior to being loaded on a ship to cross the atlantic 2) The amount of time after the car is unloaded from the boat, trucked to the dealer, and the dealer has it ready. All in all, I'm estimating that, with my production beginning June 18, my car will be delivered to Philadelphia by mid-Aug, for certain. Then the dealer will have plenty of time to prep it until I arrive 01Oct to pick it up. Oh, one other very important note. You will not be able to track it with BMW NA Owner's Circle or the 800# until it arrives in port in the states. That's when BMW NA takes posession of the car. So, what did you decide on? ~Ice

Ice,
thanks for the info again! I was looking into ordering a fully loaded 335i coupe. What i've been told is that there will be no more orders being taken for the 07 model, all orders will now be the 08 with a 5% price increase (temporarily) until final price is determined by BMW. So i guess its still a really good deal. i just think its different to have to pay for the car before you take delivery, but i guess thats how it work. o well. ...Anyways..Thanks again! -J |
