Is this window really that hard to do I understand the dot matrix will never be perfect but I had my rear window done 3 times all look horrible! I even just had the vinyl installed then the tint put on and now there's huge line of water or air where the vinyl and the tint meets? Is there no winning with this car its driving me nuts!

It's definitely possible, it just seems like the tint shop you're using isn't very good. I would ask for them to remove the tint and give you your money back.

They did not tint your dot matrix properly, and its not going to get any better, no matter how long you wait. it needs to be repaired, carefully. I got the same run around from my first shop as your getting "oh just give it time..." i gave it almost 8 weeks, there was no change...
do not fret... there's hope... you can have your dot matrix 'fixed' by a shop that does know exactly what they are doing. its gonna be a little more out of pocket but you dont want to go back to the shop that messed you up in the first place. I had my windows done by a shop that did not know how to properly work with the dot matrix. i was able to find a very reputable shop near me that was able to clean up their mess. He removed their tint only at the matrix and affixed a vinyl strip, from the inside, across the matrix that meets up perfectly with the rear tint. It ran me $75 that i gladly paid and served as a 'lesson learned'. You really want to avoid having someone remove your rear window tint that is currently on there. They will have to do such a careful job scraping and cleaning that the chances are very high the job will come out worse than it is now or that your rear glass (defroster) will get damaged. Re-tinting side windows is one thing, but rear defroster windows are quite another. here is before (top) and after (bottom) on my E92 keep us posted what you do. ![]()

Yeah it deff has to be this shop there's crease lines everywhere I even asked for the vinyl and there's a huge line under the vinyl where the tint meets it and the edges are horrible! I'm blown away gave them 3 chances. I'm going to try another shop this monday. My other windows are fine but my rear looks straight embarssing.

So finally my tints were fixed dot matrix non existent! Use vinyl to cover it and a good shop... But that was my fourth time gettin it done. Before the 4th time tilting we realized one of my of defrost bars up top was slight edged off is that bad? It still work just looks a little weird if u really concentrate to see the other side doesn't match up. Should I leave it or will it cause problems in the long run?

probably should be okay, as long as its still working and still adhered to the glass.
How did they fix the matrix? did they remove the tint from the whole glass and redo the entire job? or did they just redo that section? and of course...pictures! ![]() very happy to hear your car is cleaned back up. nice work.

Tint material is porous (they will eventually let whatever is underneath them evaporate through them). In most cases, small bubbles will go away in NO MORE than 3 weeks (just be patient) DO NOT PUSH ON THEM!!! you will only make them bigger... if bubbles are about dime-size, they will not repair themselves and the installer is obligated to retint your material (due to improper installation).

You can also try Lamin-X exterior tint (meant for lights and such). 1. It wont affect the defroster (effectiveness of the defroster is hindered a little bit, just takes longer to de-fog your window) 2. It also covers up the Window brake light 3. It's glossy to match your black car! ^__^ It's more pricey than regular interior tint because it's thicker and designed for exterior application, but it looks fabulous! \ A local tint shop i go to tints EVERYTHING you can imagine, he literally fitted a Datsun truck, head to toe, with tint film <--- what a waste of money in my opinion, but experimenting with that, he's learned where he can tint, how far it can stretch, how long it takes to dry, what it affects (heat transfer), and everything else there is to know about lamin-x film... i think his datsun is on youtube if you search for it... lol Last edited by N0OS3; 09-20-2011 at 03:50 PM.. |
