K&N Filters - BAD?
Hey guys,
I'm looking into fixing up my work car (2002 MB C320) and for sure the first thing that came to my mind was an 'upgraded' filter. I was on the benzworld forum and came acorss this debate on the effectiveness of K&N filters. It might be a bit of a read, but rather eye opening if true. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/k-n-...-part-1-a.html Anybody have any knowledge on this issue? Coles Notes: K&N can't filter down to the same level of microns as an oem filter. It does come close when it's first oiled but soon after looses all it's effectiveness.

You're not going to see big gains from a drop in filter (of any kind). You can pick up a few HP and some better gas mileage, but that's about it. Cotton/Gauze filter are safe as long as they are taken care of. As ESC stated, over oiling can cause problems down stream. Use common sense when cleaning and recharging. Not rocket science.
I went with an ITG foam filter (panel) on this car as a change of pace. Been running K&N's so long I wanted to try something else. Works well...for what it is.
