OEM E90 335i exhaust pics

Someone on a previous thread really wanted to see a photo of the E90 335i exhaust, so I took one while at Long Beach BMW today.

that was me...thanks! i just wanted to see how they fit the mufflers even with the cubby hole in the trunk

Good question I don't know the answer to.

If I had to guess . . .

- to minimize sound resonance; it's like giving each muffler an extra baffle?

- to equalize the exhaust fumes, pressure and pulses?

On older muscle cars, it wasn't uncommon to see crossover pipes closer to the headers. This allowed excess pressure on one side to crossover to the quiet side. Missmatched pressures and pulses would cross over to the other side as exhaust flows through the system, but I've never seen this at the muffler.

Maybe its purpose is something like a X or H pipe?

Its because when the car is cold, there is no exhaust coming out of the left muffler... Just the right.

So that when the flap is closed on the left side exhaust tip (look in there with a flashlight) the exhaust gasses will have somewhere to go.

When I turn my car on in the morning, and the engine is still cold i hear the exhaust from both, I've specificaly checked to see if both are working and they were.

You guys think it will sound different if the part is cut off and the 2 mufflers or seperate?? Anyone try this??
