New Plugs at 49k

With the temps dropping low into the 40's recently I have been having some terrible cold starts. Last week I started it up in the morning on the way to class, got a check engine light and seemed like the motor was rocking side to side very profusely. Hooked the computer up to the usb cable from the JB4 got received a cylinder 5 misfire.

Seems like I am not the only one that has had this cylinder misfire 1st. Well I turned the car off immediately, started it back up 2 minutes later and it seemed as if it was running fine.

Well I just passed over 49,000 miles so I figured it was about time to change them, thought that BMW would have done this on one of the millions of times its been in for service but I guess they take the cheap route. Oh yeah and my warranty ran out last Friday lol

Ordered the bosch oem plugs from AutohausAZ for $63 shipped!

Going to do a pull on wednesday and load my results, then do the difference when the new plugs come in. Oh yeah and my catless dp's should be here by then too!

My car seemed to shake a little bit when it was cold. I ordered the same plugs, took me a little under an hour to change them. Idrive said they had 18K left before they needed to be changed but I'm glad a changed them, they looked horrible. Its running a lot better now.

I just changed mine and was wondering if you thought 23nm felt pretty light to you?
Breaking the old plugs loose seemed to take a lot more torque...

I tightened them by hand to what i thought they should be. My torque wrench is worthless.

does the car feel a little stronger? im going to do a before and after run to see if it changes much

Where exactly is the service indicator for spark plugs on the 335i iDrive? I've never seen that indicator before. Mine is a 2007 March production if that matters.

early 07's had the spark plugs listed on the iDrive menu (CBS). later 07's have sparkplugs as CBS servicable items, but they do not show up in the iDrive service menu. 08's and later have sparkplugs as mileage based maintenance (replace every 45K miles)

I just changed mine last Thursday. I ordered the Bosch OEM plugs from AutohausAZ too. Great price. I used a torque wrench that I bought from Discount Auto. 23NM felt just about right to me. Snug fit... not too tight. You never want to overtighten spark plugs.

I've never had an issue with my car. I only changed the plugs because it's recommended around 45k miles. Car runs just as good as it did before I changed the plugs. I'm at 43k miles. Old plugs looked great. Only mod is DCI.

My biggest recommendation is to be VERY patient pulling the coils. I inserted a wrench extension in the coil hoop on the tab that rotates 90 degrees and pulled straight up slowly. Lots of folks break them changing their plugs because they're not patient.

fruck...spent $18.1 a piece from dealer...with discount. I needed to do them yesterday and it would have cost about the same to overnight them......spent $4.98 on the socket at sears.....about 5 minutes to file down the end of the socket and used the coils to pull out and put in the spark plugs by hand before using the wrench.

Why did you need to file down the end of the socket?
Why use the the coils to insert and remove the plugs when the socket is magnetic?
Just curious...

well guys hooked to comp up to the car and got cylinder 1 misfire, cylinder 2 misfire, cylinder 3 misfire, multiple cylinder misfires.

replaced all 6 spark plugs, deleted the dme codes, so i guess ill see if i can any codes now...a couple people told me it may be the coils?

Plugs and coils run in series so it's a daisy chained system. Sometimes its one component that can cause misfires, sometimes the other, sometimes both. If codes dont come back, then plugs were fouled. If they do, then coils are your next best bet.

Also check injectors. Usual 3 culprits.

Thanks, sounds better at idle so we'll see if any codes pop up
