RB turbo's - good?

Hi there all

Just joined a few days ago, been surfing over e90 for a while now, some really good information here from the guys.

Quick question regarding rob beck's turbos.

First of all has anyone successfully used these, and drawbacks to them at all?

Heard a few people saying that having a meth kit without upgrading the turbo's is slightly pointless or vice versa? Any truth to this?

Thanks guys!

I have no first hand experience of the RBs but everything ive seen suggests they are great mods, as are any of the upgraded turbos(ASR, Helix, TD, EPL etc)
Meth is a big help on almost any car regardless of mods, as long as the tune takes advantage of it

NOT Truth... Most of the people here with meth kit without upgrading the turbos,
Having a Meth kit without a Tune is pointless tho.

Cheers buddy

I plan to get a custom map when i get my turbo's / meth anyway so take full advantage of them of course.

Has anyone got any turbo lag from upgrades in their car? Ive heard people conversing over increased turbo lag when upgrading?

Would this be solved with some hi flo downpipes which ive got anyway if there where to be a problem?

I'm running RBs, completely changes how the car drives, I've had no problems with them, very happy with their performance. In regards parts, Rob has a list of the various parts needed in a post on the other forum.

Have you had any pre - post dyno runs with them? What do you think your bhp has increased by?

Do you have a link to where the extra parts list are?

I would go FBO (full bolt on) meth before venturing into upgraded turbos. Price per HP is better and you can still push 18 psi out of stock turbos. Once stock turbos start to die go with upgraded turbos. That's just my $0.02, but if you have another $4000-$5000 to spend on-top of the other mods, go for it!

Sorry I can't edit on the iPhone app. As for other mods, it's highly recommended to get a LSD and other suspension mods too. All that power is a waste if you can't apply it to the road.

As for hardware parts... Rob has a spreadsheet of needed items. Roughly $200 for that and another $200 if you want to use new oil lines.

Thanks bud,

Can you explain to me the difference between a FBO meth kit and other meth kits that aren't full bolt on?

Thanks for your patience, learning slowly

Also on a separate note apologies if this is in the wrong area.

But i noticed you have the aquamist HFS-3 kit and a BOV, do you have to use a re-circ hose to not get meth into the engine bay?

BOV is closed at WOT when I'm spraying. I'm guessing a little residual meth might come out when I lift off the throttle but it would evaporate very fast. Nothing to worry about. I also saw your post about meth kits. Check out Aquamist since they are in the UK too.

Presume that the Evo racewerks charge pipe fits fine with the aquamist system then?

If so i may look into them because of the comp ability with the HKS SSQV4

Have you had any dyno runs with your mods? My setup will be something quite similar to yours and just wondering what i can expect.

Yes it will work with both. It might be easier for you to get the V5 shivs pwm meth kit , no fussing around and easy install. I believe his CP fits a bov too.

Im getting a PROcede anyway, so probably for a few reasons ill go with their meth kit as its got good reviews.

I think Shiv said that he's not sure if any BOV will fit, but he said Forge's DV will.

Shame really because I'm looking for that sexy HKS swooshing noise which i won't get.
