iPod/ipad movies
Just as curious as to what programs you guys are using to get movies to work on your ipad/iPods. I have tried to drag files through iTunes and it won't work.

2 options:
You can either install VLC on your device if it's jailbroken and transfer the video files directly onto the device using 'iphone explorer' or SSH. Otherwise, to transfer through iTunes, you'll obviously need to convert the video to .mp4. I recommend Xilisoft Video Converter. It works great, and it's easy to adjust quality/size/aspect ratio if you need to. I use it all the time, available for both Mac and Win. |

Handbrake, real simple to use. Once it is complete imprt the file into iTunes. Basically two clicks of the mouse and you are converting the file

there are multiple media players for the IPAD/IPOD that can play
.avi and mkv and even real media files its worth the few bucks to have a drag and drop option. the ipad 1 cannot play the 6gig 720 mkv files without being choppy. but it can play all the avi files even if they are 1080p (4 gig files) fk |

VLC is what I use and it's by far the best. I've tried a ton of other ones and so far VLC has played everything the other apps wont. Now I don't even bother using the other apps, I just use VLC.

+10 on Handbrake. Free and stable. I always use Apple TV2 preset, doesn't compress videos as much, however I could never get the subtitles to embed correctly

i am too lazy to convert my shit, so I have tried:
VLC GoodPlayer CineXPlayer Movie Player All 4 are complete garbage. They play some movies, but not others, none of them are able to play 1080p or 720p without chocking, some are able to play a move but without sound. Most of this depends on the movie encoding, but don't waste your time. Just convert whatever movies you have to a format that iTunes understands. After that you'll be fine.

Flexplayer - I directly upload movies on my itunes via the app tab when syncing my ipad. No conversion necessary. Have had no issues playing .avi format videos and also have 720p movies.

Handbrake. VisualHub if you need to do something more fancy on a Mac.
