Bittersweet

So... I've decided that it's time to part with the BMW. I've had my car for the better part of three years, and as warranty-expiration approaches, I just could not shake the thought of "no-warranty" from my head!

Over the weekend, I realized that as this is probably my 4th or 5th car in nine years, I'm best trying a vehicle that I could drive a little longer without being concerned about reliability, inspiration, performance, etc... Therefore, I'm going back to Japanese vehicles.

It's been fun! Nothing quite drives like the BMW and I don't think I could ever forget the experience! And with xDrive, it drives well in winter.

I had my vehicle apprised over the weekend for $29k + tax benefit; works out to be approximately $33000 once you factor in the tax credit. My car is a graphite 335xi 2dr w/ auto, leather. I hope the next owner will appreciate it as much as I have.

That said, if anybody wants to do a private sale, I'd sell it for $33000, but it needs to be closed and done-deal by Friday as I need to either give the dealer cash-in-lieu of trade-in, or the trade-in. lol!

I signed for a 2011 FX35.

I've always wanted one and when better to get one than now! I feel I got a fair-to-good trade-in value, and they took about $8000 off the price of the car; $4750 factory incentive, and ~$3000 discount at dealer level.

I had that (2004, the very first year - leased. Thank God !). Gas Guzzler. Averaged 15L/100km (summer); 16.5L/100km (winter). Very bad Blind spot and (backing up) parking without the camera is difficult.

One good thing was ... virtually trouble free operation for the 3 years I had. The only one issue I had was just the warped front brakes and they were replaced free of charge.

Interesting!

I don't mind the gas guzzling part since I drive less than 10k a year usually.

Now they all come with the backup cameras, which I found useful on my test-drive.

For the trouble-free operation, that's amazing! Since my vehicle has been at the dealer at least once a year for stuff like: Transmission gasket leak, HPFP failure... twice, injector failure (two of them at the same time), spark plug failure, intake hose from IC cracked, etc... and I don't race, track, or even drive hard.

Now I'm petrified at the thought of no-warranty.

I had the HPFP done on my previous 535. SA told me if I were to pay that out of my own pocket, that would be a $2500-$3000 job.

As for the FX35, I remembered gas back at 2004 was around 90 cents (regular) + 12 cents ? for premium. Fast forward to today 1.25 (regular) + 15 cents for premium. That's about $35 - $40 or so more per full tank (90L)

$2500?! WOW!

If gasoline is the only thing I really need to worry about in this new car, I think I just purchased myself a winner! lol

The fuel pump is warrantied for 10 years so that's not an issue.

How about failed fuel injectors? I had two that failed, and I apparently also had one of the sparkplugs fail. This lead to a misfiring issue in cylinder 3. When they removed it, they said there was a lot of oil on the spark plug.

This was not made official by BMW Canada when I had it repaired about 1.5-1.75 yrs ago. That's why the SA made that remark of such expensive cash outlay (if not covered).

After hearing that, (just like the OP) ... better get rid of the car with the value is still there .... I think the 10 years warranty extension was officially announced about 1 year ago or so (as I had already got rid of the car)

As Omar says "It's all in the game".
