What do I need to retrofit BMW Assist ? (and use it with the new BMW iPhone app) ?

Hi,

I don't know if you are aware that BMW released a new iPhone (and Android as of today) application which works with BMW Assist and lets you lock/unlock the doors, set the climate control, even start the car (not sure about this),

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t...formation.html

This is way too cool !

This urges me to find solutions to retrofit BMW Assist on my car (335i LCI euro-spec). I have Navigation Professional and USB option. I don't have Bluetooth but I do have the bluetooth module in the trunk which can be activated for Bluetooth (a friend of mine did this to hid identical module).

So, can I retrofit BMW Assist ? What parts to I need ? Coding is no problem.

Thanks !

PS: tried to search but only found one thread which ended suddenly without any conclusion.

I emailed them and they said they have no solution for the BMW Assist retrofit
I will keep searching, it shouldn't be very hard.

Assist retrofit is not complicated from the hardware or coding point of view, but in order to have the services up and running in your vehicle it has to be enabled by BMW.
Depending where you live this can be very difficult...

Let's say I can solve the enabling problem (I know some techs at the dealership very well), can you point me in the right direction with the retrofit ? Like, what part numbers do I need, any threads on here that I didn't find by searching ?

Ok... it seems that we have a laziness situation here.

The TCU retrofit kit (pre-Sept 09/10 in the USA, 03/10 in Europe) is posted in a STICKY.

The Telematics Combox retrofit kit (Sept 09/10-on in the USA, 03/10-on in Europe) is posted in this particular forum. Using the words "Combox retrofit" in the search will get the OEM document (with part numbers and even pictures!) in no time.

Come on guys, this is getting old.

Has anyone downloaded this app (android) and gotten it to work yet?

I just looked in the Android Market and didn't see anything called "BMW Remote", and the link posted did not mention Android at all.

It became available 2 days ago:

http://www.google.com/search?q=my+bmw+remote+android

But I think that My BMW Remote is not available at all in North American App Stores (BMW NA considers it is not safe enough ? )

^If true
That would mean the BMW assist I had to get with the HK upgrade is still useless to me.

For the iPhone: go to the iTunes store in the UK, create an account, and download the app ... then it will mostly work in the USA -a couple of features are not functional in the USA but most are.

That would explain it. Too bad; it seems like a cool feature to have.
