Re-Maps - Emaps/JB4

Hi,

New to this site.....just purchased an 07 335i M-Sport and looking into remapping options.

I have been recommended a company called Emaps and the gains they advertise take the BHP up to 360 and the torque to 470.

Having said that, since I have been looking on here, I keep seeing references to a 'JB4'. can anyone give me anymore info on this?

Thanks

Welcome along, this is a great site and you'll find lots of help here. Also congrats on an excellent choice of car (commented a biased 335i owner).

Right, remaps. First, yes get it done, but check the cost with your insurer beforehand.
Second, who to pick? Well I went with Evolve, this invoves a schlep up the A31/M3/M25 to Luton, or they do a remote loading device called Evolve-R which costs £150 with the actual map on top. Top fellas, thoroughly recommended, will take your car to 370 bhp safely and you'll be grinning like a Chesire cat that's swallowed a plate. Emaps? No idea, sorry.
Third, piggybacks like the JB4.........cheaper (circa £350 from Juiced Up Tuning who are sponsors on here), very strong performance and you can remove it and sell it on when (if) you sell the car. However, you have to install it yourself, see the video on the Burger Motorsports website from the USA.
Fourth, a warning. Once you start modding the 335i you might not be able to stop! It is addictive!
Fifth, do a search on here, there's squillions of threads on this topic.

Happy reading and modding.........Mike (nr. Southampton by the way).
PS do I get a commission Imran?

Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts.

If a JB4 involves me fitting I think that rights off that idea......

I purchased my car from BMW under there approved scheme as it seemed to be a really good deal based on the research I had done when I sold my old e46 325i (to a guy in Southampton as it goes), so would remapping it cause me problems in relation to the 12 month warranty I have got?

Its on their website as it shows the gains they offer, but I havent phoned them to confirm they do it as just looking into my options at the moment.

Heard good things about them from people I know that have used them and they will come to you as well.

As Mike has mentioned you have to fit the JB4 yourself, I think I will leave that as not very mechanically minded.

Visually I love the car is it is......when buying it from BMW I asked them to have it ready with the BMW Black Performance Grills and they make the front for me.

Only thing I will add on a visual fronts is darker tints at the back an lighter tints at the front I think.

With regards the performance, the possibilities seem endless.

Do you know the MPG effect that a remap has?

I heard they can improve it because they can alter the boost to come in later so that your not always boosting....is there any truth in this/

Obviously if you are put your foot down all the time the MPG will fall though the floor, but just in general driving terms?

Yes, the possibilities are endless, and pricey......I've spent more than I really should on my car, let's just say enough to take the family to Florida again.
Regarding warranty, well you are taking a slight risk if you have a remap. BMW could, in principle, reject a warranty claim BUT they would have to prove the failure was directly related to the remap and they'd have to find out it was remapped. Since BMW UK pay them to do warranty work, they have no incentive to look for it. However, common sense tells you there's a risk. Personally, I run without warranty but that's just me....
Economy? I found the remap made little difference - on the one hand the engine isn't working so hard, on the other you can't resist the temptation to floor it every so often! I guess the two even out.

Mike.

If you are concerned about warranty
-depends on how concerned, just wait 12months until you learn the car, you will appreciate the power more then.

If you are relaxed just dont want loads of grief should your clutch pack up
- Go JB4 as this easily removed and very hard to trace.
- Go with a flash tune, Evolve - DMS - GIAC - Cobb: this is not so easily removed but you can return to flash to stock and then have the flash redone I think free or very low charge.

Oh an do search, if helpful you can advanced search for UK only as you have better chances of finding more relevant info.

Hppe that helps and welcome!

Yes it could affect the warranty if they discover a map, they discovered mine had been mapped even after I had removed it. With everything that can go wrong with these cars I wouldn't personally risk having my warranty voided.

Oh and if you do get it mapped wait until next summer to do it, finding out your map makes your you lose traction even at high speed is not a good idea in this weather!

Good shout......reading various posts and thinking about it, I have been leaning towards waiting till the 12 month warranty is up and then even then I might see what an extended warranty costs so might never get to do it.

They are a dream to drive as they are so not a disaster if I dont get to do it.

Emaps have a very good reputation.

Like you say though, enjoy the car in stock form for a while.

Like you say its a great car even without a map so just enjoy it for a few months and take it from there. The extended warranty has been a godsend for me, in its first few months its paid for itself for about 3 years at £35 a month so again it's something you need to consider in 12 months. Also if you are a rear wheel drive 'virgin' then winter tires may be something you will also be looking at this time next year

That's interesting to hear what the costs are roughly to extend the warranty. At that cost per month, it is something I would almost certainly do I think.

Who did you use for that?

Not a rear drive virgin as owned an e46 325i for 4 years before this, but saying that, this car is in a different league so very much taking it easy whilst I learn the power and how it handles.

Hi ChubbsBmth,

Here's some information and videos about the JB4 Tune...

Essentially the JB4 is a plug in and drive tune offering up to 80whp and 80tq on a stock car. Via the USB Cable and Software the JB4 opens up a world of advanced settings and features like 1st 2nd gear traction control, diagnostics, code reading deleting, Built in down pipe fix etc.

Unlike remaps the JB4 has Steering wheel button controls for on the fly map switching, gauge hi-jacking for in dash gear shift lights, show boost on fuel and Air Intake Temps on Oil or simply controlling the exhaust flap for a louder exhaust.

The JB4 has a number of performance MAPs that support you as you mod. If you decide you want an Intercooler and/or downpipes and want to take advantage of the extra power these can provide. Simply switch to a higher boost MAP. Normally this would mean a trip back to the remapper and you'd hand over some more £££ but not with the JB4.

The JB4 powers the most powerful N54 (500whp+) cars in the world!!!!

http://www.juiceduptuning.co.uk/shop...duct.asp?ID=26

http://www.burgertuning.com/

http://www.burgertuning.com/jb4_pnp_...nce_tuner.html

Our BMS tunes come with the "BMS 14 day full money back guarantee"

Cheers

Neil

High performance cars & drivers go with the JB4 from Juiceduptuning.

Neil will look after you.
You then need to look after your licence
