Dull mark on the car after polish

Ok, so i had a bird poop in my car. Claened it as fast as i could but it left a mark. I used a polish to remove the mark, but it left a dull spot in the paint. What happened? What did i do wrong?

And most important, how do i get back my shiny black sapphire color?!!

Canuck is right, but I'll give you my version. Depending on what level of polish you used (abrasivness) you can and will leave a haze on your finish. Don't panic. I did when I first did it on my BRAND NEW CAR, but it was all good. After you have removed your marks, you need to reverse your polish. This means you have to decrease the abrasivness. I used a #3 polish from Griot's. It hazed my black saph. I then went to a #4, which is less abrasive (remember to switch, or clean pad). Last step for me was my wax, since I don't use sealant (soon to change). Remember to use your best, finest pad for your last step. The color will go back to normal. It may even come back too good, which means you'll have to do the whole area so it blends.

I'm glad it worked out. I know what that feels like when you think you screwed something up. When I first did my hood with my orb, it completely hazed over, and I freaked. I drove to Griot's (15 minutes from my house) and the mgr showed me why everything was still ok. After I went back home and finished, it came out perfect.

Anyways, congrats, and now enjoy it.

What polish did you use to remove the mark?
