Tire pressure for Track Event

Ok folks,

I am going to my first Test&Tune track event. I am wondering what tire pressure should I be running for the track? I normally do 40psi front and 42 psi rear.

18" stock wheels with standard sized tires.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Vasil, I just did the HPDE at Road America this weekend, it was awesome, I'll post pics and vids later.

To start, drop your cold pressure by about 4-5 PSI. Immediately after your first session, check the tires again. Hot, they should be around 38-40, or 40-42.

If your pressure is too high, drop them down to that range while hot so you are getting the most out of your tires for the next run. Check the tires and adjust accordingly after every session. If they are too low, add pressure when cold by the number that you were off.

stay safe my man!

forgot to mention, once you hit your sweet spot, you can also increase or decrease PSI depending on understeer or oversteer

Chris,

Thanks a lot buddy! Yeah, I've been running 40/42 for front and rear on AutoX events when the tires are hot. I found out that the current tires that I have (all season Pirelli's) they perform their best at that pressure. I was not sure if the same pressures should be applicable for Track events as well.

Next year, I'll have full dedicated winter and summer setups.

I am going to Gingerman on Oct 15th with a few of my buddies. Do you want to come? $75.00 a person. Starts @ 5:00 pm.

It all depends on how hot you get your tires after a session. If you are not sure how much your psi will raise after a session try starting at 32psi cold and immediately check your tire pressure when you get off track. Those tires hot would be good about 40psi, so try and use that as a starting point and adjust accordingly from there. It all depends on what you are feeling, and pay attention to see if the tire is rolling over on the shoulder. That can be an indication you are under inflated.

Did not go. Had an emergency home project to deal with: roof leaking into kitchen. Hell of a clean up job.
