Those with navigation. How to switch split screen?

Hey guys,

Those of you who have iDrive / Navigation, I was trying to figure out if it I am able to make the Navigation Map on the left side of the screen (larger side) and make the other functions such as Entertainment, communcation, etc on the right side of the screen.

Also what is sort of funny is when I have the screen in navigation mode, the screen will display maps on both sides of the screen.

iDrive definitely gets some getting used to especially when I'm coming from a Lexus touch screen nav.

Push the iDrive knob to the right, and push down to select "split screen content" and scroll down to what you want instead of the map on the right side.

I usually have the nav map on the left, and entertainment details on the right.

Use voice command & utter "split screen content" & have fun..

As far as navs go, the Lexus nav screen looks like the Magellan Roadmate. In addition, it locks you out while the car is in motion..

Not sure which version it is, but I assume it is the latest since the vehicle is an '11.

my vehicle is an 07 and i couldn't find the split screen function damn it. Looks like I don't have this option. Pretty non-intuitive of BMW to have the navigation on the small screen...

'07 definitely had split-screen; IIRC, it was always split-screen except at the main menu. No full-screen nav is possible (notwithstanding unsubstantiated reports).

I think you can change options by pushing the controller to the right - which will select the assistance window - then pressing down and it will give a menu of options.

Or press the voice command button and say "assistance window current position", "assistance window trip computer", "assistance window arrow display", "assistance window map facing north", etc.

+1, -1/2
Pre-LCI (2009) iDrive had 2 screens, so the screen was "split" at all times. The menu did not span both screens. You can have nav in the main screen, and entertainment in the "assistane window."

This is a Reference to CCC based idrive and not the newer CIC based iDrive.

Indeed the main top level menu was full screen with all other functions using the main screen (left side) and assistant window (right side).

Nav options were available on the right side or assistant window with any of the map views, arrow views, etc.

What wasn't possible however was to put entertainment details on the right side like you can do with the newer CIC based idrive.

This is what I want to do...but for some odd reason, I got stuck with NAV on the right...when I check the "Split screen" button, it just splits the screen, showing me in the Options dialog only info related to the menu I'm currently in, but does not also give me the option to choose from a list as to what I want to have displayed on the right...so now I'm stuck with NAV on the right, no matter what...I've tried all menus & Options but checking the Split screen doesn't produce the list of items to choose from, with nothing to scroll through ...where the heck did those options disappear? Any clues? Thx

PS - I have the LCI w/2nd Gen iDrive

Version 2 I assume? Version 1 you have no choice but to use split screen from what I can tell.

Weird. Either you've got a bonafied bug or you're missing a small step.

(note that I'm not in front of my iDrive at the moment)

Pressing the Options button on the iDrive controller will bring up a menu of options related to the current display (ie, Nav options). Split Screen Content will appear here, but selecting it will only enable/disable the split screen.

To choose what you want in the split screen, do what DASHOCKER and chuckee98 recommend. I know for a fact that a sure-fire way to get the split screen list is chuckee98's method, but be sure that you don't push the controller right so many times that you bring up the Options list - which is always the right-most pane on any iDrive screen.

Rather, you want the split screen selected (go the 0:05 mark in this vid) Once you're there, press the controller down and you'll get the list of available split screen content.

Sorry but that was the best vid I could find at the moment. Note that he appears to push the controller to the right again after 0:05, which is what I think you're doing and hence you're getting the Options pane vs. the Split Screen Contents list.

Thx I did all that and tried all possible combinations, but I think there may be a bug in the software since I managed to do it initially when I setup the NAV on the right, but now the list of options has disappeared..

BTW: is there a way to reset the iDrive (i.e. like a reboot?)...maybe that will bring back the list of options. Thx

OK, I went and unplugged the battery, left it for a few mins and then reconnected...well, it looks like this was the "hard reboot" that did the trick...I can now see the full list of options again...hmmm, now I wonder why it disappeared?...I'll be monitoring for a while and if it happens again I'll bring it in to the shop. Thx 4 everyone's input.

If I am just driving around (and not using the Navigation to guide me) then I usually keep the left part of the screen on Pre-Sets and the right part of the screen on Map.
If I am driving around being guided by the Navigation, I have the left part of the Screen on Map, and the right part on Arrow (so I can easily see what street I am on, when I need to turn etc). I set on of the quick buttons to call up the pre-sets so I can easily change the station, Satellite, etc. and then another of the quick buttons to Map with a particular view so it effectively allows me to toggle back and forth between the map and the pre-sets.

Depending on what music I am listening to (or if I want to show off to others in the car), I will keep the right side on Entertainment Details so I can show off the Album cover art!

Has anyone had the Assist Window on the CCC Nav modified to include the Entertainment Details?
