bmw recovery

i'm in the process of sorting out a warranty and bmw are the cheapest (i was very suprised) and so thought its a no brainer.

however, we tow a caravan so thought i would double check they would recover it was well.

i spoke to an advisor who informed me they would leave the caravan behind, i used the example of breaking down on the motorway. they said we will take you and the car but leave the caravan on the hard shoulder, there is no additional policy you can sign up for either.

this leaves me with a problem, as part of the warranty only bmw can recover you etc, this means getting the aa/rac/caravan club (which is excellent value) is not really worth it in terms of car cover, it would only serve as a very expensive "get the caravan home" service. even then without the car would they even recover it?

any body got ideas or suggestions?

cheers

go for the warranty and leave out the recovery bit saving you about £70 then take out AA or RAC breakdown cover

Just leave the caravan behind in the first place.

thanks for the top tip. don't think the wife would be happy turning up at the camp site with no caravan (get there quicker though)

You know that they will still tow the car even without the recovery option? Making it pointless in your case anyway as you dont want to leave the caravan behind.

The extra option for recovery just means they will sort out a hotel for you, take you there and cover the bills. The standard warranty will still tow you if they cant fix it at the roadside.

Take out the standard policy will still includes towing and sort out another policy for your caravan. But double check that if BMW have already taken your car and you, they will still go and get the caravan.

good idea but not an option, because i passed my test after the 1st Jan 1997 i have to take another test to tow the caravan (something i have not done yet), this means its the wife doing the towing.

on the + side i don't get an ear bending about my driving!

I was told this buy a BMW Dealer and always thought it was true. But when i took out my BMW Warranty the other day, i called up the BMW Insured Warranty hotline and asked if i HAD to be recovered by BMW to make my warranty claim valid and the woman said no. I then said "so, i could still be recovered by the AA/RAC and any warranty claim that arose from the incident would still be totally valid" and she said "yes".

I'm not sure which one is telling the truth? Doesn't say anything about having to be recovered by BMW in the T&C's so maybe it's changed?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

thats very interesting, as it happens i have just took out the bmw warranty about 10 minutes ago.
i agree with you though, i can't see anywhere in the t&c stating they won't carry out warranty work if the car was recovered by a 3rd party

a bit off topic but is your towbar a factory fit option or did you have it fitted after, as i brought my father 5 series it had a after market towbar and his new one was fitted at the factory and the insurance wanted extra from me but not my father as they classed it a mod to the car
