ECU cooling fan
I was cleaning out my glovebox and noticed the ecu cooling fan blowing constantly once the car was warmed up fully...Once I noticed this, the last few days I have been bugging out hearing the noise of the cooling fan from the ecu box, I guess its a selective hearing thing that I got going on! Anyway is the cooling fan from the ecu suppose to stay on constantly or is it suppose to intermittenly turn on and off...If its suppose to turn on and off, then I have a really issue and I am not bugging out...Can anyone tell me if your car is also doing the same...Thanks
Its part number 5 on the diagram |

Can you describe the sound? Is it like a buzzing sound coming from inside the dash? If so, I hear this all the time when the car is warm and have been wondering where the hell it's coming from!!! I guess this answers that

Yes thats it! Open your glovebox and stick your ear towards the direction of the glovebox and you can hear a fan blowing and buzzes and hums...When the engine is cold its not on but once the car is fully warmed in my car the fan turns on and never shuts off...Now that I hear it I have selective hearing I guess OCD syndrome and its making me bug out, but if its normal I guess I am tripping! Need to know if its suppose to stay on without ever shutting off

I put the water tank in my glovebox with a small line running to a nozzle that i duct taped on my ecu. I have this red button that activates a small pump to spray water on my ecu. I haven't tried it out yet, but I have a feeling when I hit the red button, it will make the fan stop spinning, eliminating the noise. Its like water/meth for intake temps, except better. Spray water on your ECU and the fan shuts off. |

I can't hear mine (probably courtesy of Vanguard + AR). But I have heard it in my buddy's car for a while and I could swear it turned on and off IIRC. This was about a year and a half ago and I haven't heard him mention any work or problems related to the ECU cooling fan. Sorry I don't have a definite answer for you.
P.S. lol @ the water injection joke |

BMW has been doing this for years. Many come with an "E-box" fan. It will even set a code in the ECU if it fails. There is either a sensor inside the box or built into the ECU board (depending on model / year) to monitor temps, and it runs automatically.
