This stuff won't be found in a bar. It is an ultra premium that once opened has to be fully consumed. It doesn't store like an opened bottle of liqueur, more like the shelf life of wine (a few days). You can find them sometimes on eBay, and high end spirits retailers. Expect to pay $2-3000 a bottle (it was only produced for 3 years), and again, it has to be consumed upon opening it. And with the limited production runs this stuff is near impossible to find to begin with (last production run I saw only produced 12,400 bottles in a year).
But to give you a starting point of where to begin looking I have seen two bottles of this in the past five years. The first bottle I came across was at The Flying Saucer (a bar) in Addison, TX. It's empty and used as decoration behind the bar. The second bottle I saw was at Siegel's in Addison TX (liquor store). It was in the locked glass security cabinet without a price tag. You MUST go to that Dogfish Head 120 tapping. I got to enjoy that last year at a tapping at Flying Saucer. The beer is definitely a must taste. Go drink a 60, and a 90...the IPA hops explode into a bitter assault on your tastebuds...so you will be cringing when you lift the 120 to your mouth. But it's interesting...the 120 has no bitters, and tastes nothing like an IPA. It's actually VERY sweet, to the point of giving Kool-Aid a run for it's money in sugar content... And the kick is phenomenal! And think of it like this, wine is generally 13-15% alcohol, and is 750ml/bottle (26oz). So you should have 5-6 individual servings of a bottle of wine. And most people get hammered if they drink a whole bottle themselves.
Dogfish Head 120 is 12% beer, served in 20oz glasses! I had three glasses and couldn't stand up...then after the math the next day I realized I basically drank two bottles of wine in a 1hr session... That beer is an eye opener for sure. |
