The 295bhp is for when i drive my 'personal' miles
If business miles are your thing then 320d surely?
Don't you get the same mileage for a 2l than a 3l?
I do anyway and that's doing it legally as a contractor.

Your being stiffed on your mileage allowance there mate! I get 45p first 10k and then 25p plus a very healthy monthly allowance on top of that.

I dont see how a 330d with 295hp can give just as good mpg as a 320d? Either you drive like a gran in the 330 or your 320d was fucked

All this talk about fuel (in amongst the bollocks) got me thinking

I've just clocked up 52k miles in my 335i in 2 years at 26mpg.

Almost all on v power at an average £1.42/ltr which is £6.47/gallon means I've ploughed through almost £13000.

So the v power premium of approx 5% has cost me £650 - a nice weekend away I guess.

My 330d used to average 36mpg so the move to a petrol car theoretically cost me £3800 over two years. A nice 2 week holiday.

For the first time ever, my car has cost me more in fuel than depreciation.

My 320d (177) got me 40-42mpg.

My 330d (LCI 245) gets me 38-40mpg on the same journeys ... but is somewhat quicker

Seems to be a huge variance in the MPG people are getting with the 320d.
I can't actually get mine below 49mpg, that's with a mixture of 90mph cruising and busy town driving. It's also remapped and I use the extra power at every opportunity!

If I was getting 40mpg I think I would get the fuel tank checked for leakage.

Gear ratios are much better on the 330d auto vs the 320d manual as well, so if you like to sit at 80mph the 330d is using less fuel.

I bet with the new 8 speed box this engine will take some beating for power and economy
And it is the easy cruising ability that contributes to many 330d owners getting just a couple of mpg less than the 320d drivers, who have to work the engine to keep a similar pace.

As to the 8-speed drivetrains, if the 530d is any thing to go by, some good figures will come along with the new 3-series. Very easy to see well into the 40's in the 530d, and feels very relaxed and free running as well. I've driven a couple, one with over 7k miles on the clock and that was the sweetest diesel I've ever driven, the 8-speed box an absolute gem.

My results are as follows....

@70mph m-way driving gets me 43-44mpg

@80mph gets me same would you believe..

Urban driving gets me 34mpg....

Heavy spirited driving which is just about all the time...overall m-way/town driving gives an average of 37mpg.

Very happy to say the least as how many cars have this sort of power and still return great consumption.

Car is Evolve Remapped.

Well it was time to fill up again today so I went back to BP Ulimate diesel. Noticed a difference straight away when pulling off the petrol station forecourt. So much more responsive. I dont think it feels a lot quicker when you hammer it through the rev range but its far more responsive when dabbing the throttle.
No more V-Power diesel for me.

Also, I did a couple of dynolicious runs with the V-Power so I'm interested to see if there is any difference with the BP Ultimate in. What this space..............

Not really comparable mate, as not the same day Temp, tarmac temp etc. Engine temp, coolant temp.. Hard to replicate all of those variables.

A LOT. I think the garage I go to charges over the odds for its fuel anyway - I paid £1.51 . But the garage is on my way to work and convenient to get to.

Due to this thread I have put in v power for a couple of weeks now.

before I was on 42.8 mpg average and a tank getting me 500 miles.
Now i am on 43.4 mpg average and the mileage countdown saying 650 miles.
The average has not been reset for nearly 10K miles.

I cannot rule out a lighter right foot though as I am constantly clock watching now.
