In NY only one party needs to be aware of the recording... It gets sticky when you start making calls across state lines though.

I believe this is illegal in California if the party(ies) involved have an objectively reasonable expectation that their conversation is confidential/private (Cal Penal Code 632 -- need consent of all parties involved in conversation). Note that the scenarios in the video are mostly either cut and dry (employer listening in on employee) or gray areas (husband listening in on wife's illicit conversation).

Edit: At the end of the video, it lists one of the uses as "remotely listening to private conversations". Definitely illegal in California (Cal Penal Code 632 includes "eavesdropping").
