Non rft
How much do insurance companies want when you move over to non run flats? I\'m with admiral by the way..
I\'m thinking of getting a full set of falken fk452\'s. Thanks

If the tyres are of a size, load, and speed rating as per the various options on the drivers door plate then IMHO it makes no difference to the insurance company if they are RFT or not, as long as they are on OEM alloys. It is not a safety requirement or any sort of absolute requirement for the vehicle - plenty of 3 series are sold by BMW without RFT.
If you want to be really careful you can often buy "star" marked non-RFT tyres, (the star marking being "BMW approved") just as you can buy tyres with Porsche or Mercedes OEM approved markings. The next set of non-RFT tyres I buy will probably be star-marked Conti SC3's which are available in my (17") size for just over £100 a pop. |

phil considering the performance of your car, I think you should opt for some premium quality rubber for your car such as Continental 5ps or Michelin pilot sports/super sports. Both are non-rfts but IMO are significantly better performing than the Falkens (which I have driven on in other cars and still rate fairly highly).
I have the Michelins and wouldn't put anything else on my car. |

I have had conti Sp5s and they are great. Had to change the rears in summer and could not get conti's in time for trip to france and had yokohamas or other mid tier tyres fitted to rear. Grip was fine, but I think the side walls were much softer than Conti's and that meant front steered really precisely as always had, but rears just weren't the same. It was like having 3 breeze blocks in the boot, horrible handling. I am not saying the grip wasn't there, just that the front and back behaved differently.
The guys at Projex were great and swapped the tyres out when I got back from a week in France and now I have conti SP5's all round as before. And the car is as before - great. The handling ruined my road trip in France and I would not go back to 'mid tier' again. With a 335i I hope you don't mind me saying you should not risk ruining the great handling as when it goes, so does the fun. Just my opinion and of course, I should not have mixed the tyres in the first place, even if they were identical specification, just different brand.

changed to contis 3 last october went for XL rated ones on front and this helped a lot with handling and have to say you can just about tell the change.
Only when you push hard into a corner those it feel softer. At same time ride quality has improved by miles. Rears lasted about 17k which aint bad for the heavy foot that I have

Im currently running Bridgestone rft on the rear and Michelin rfts on front, so I think Falkens will give much better ride and handling over the current situation.
Alot of positive reviews of falkens from 335i/d and m3 owners. My car is mainly used on motorways rather than track so absolute grip is less important...

I mentioned it to mine because it wasnt manufacture fit. This was 2008 though. Not everyone was doing it like now.

When EVER is absolute grip not needed on a motorway??!!!
What about stopping from 70-80mph including a fast direction change due to an upside down fiesta straddling both lanes... Falkens are a budget tyre. Still suprised people stick these on high performance 1600+ kilo machines.

I would not put the Falkens on a 335i either, in fact I wouldn't use them again.
Conti Sport Contact 3's have been selling for not much more and trounce the Falkens in every respect. I would rather use a Kumho over an FK452. I find the Falken spongy in the corners while managing to be a fairly hard ride and very noisy too. |

Don't tell the thieving robbing tw&ts. It's not a modification so they don't need to know. Sorry but I hate insurance company's and the robots that work for them.

Thanks Guys
I have reconsidered and will likely go for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's all round. Any experiences good or bad on our cars?? I also like the ContiSport contact 5P's but they are circa £70 more for 4 Some tyres are more suitable than others for hard sprung BMW's! I used this as a guide too: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre-Si...5-18-Tyres.htm Cheers Phil |

I am also with Admiral and they charged didnt increase my premium at all when I moved to Non-runflats. At the same time as making this change, I also stuck some LM Reps on, for which they charged me an extra £50 ish.... Hope this helps! |
