all bmws are great cars, regardless of it being 328 330 or 335....as far as reliability goes...i honestly think mods are the reason that causes the failure...i used to cry and whine about how unreliable the 335 was, but honestly i think my issue was that I was trying to make a car designed for street use and as a commute car into a road course track car. If i used the car as it's intended purpose I probably would have been more than satisfied. After owning the GT-R, yes its absolutely fast, but the build quality does not compare to a BMW, when I drive my wifey's 535xi, i definitely notice is a lot more...so my suggestion to anyone who's considering getting out of a 335 or any bmw for that matter, think about all the pros and stop worrying about things that didnt even happen yet to your car, ie vanos, hpfp failure...a forum can hype these things up...yes it will happen but it may not necessarily be your car. I will admit though, only problem with bimmers are that the depreciation of it is just horrible but so are every other german cars, exception being porsche

I plan on keeping mine until it dies (which I hope will be later rather than sooner)...As much fun as it was with the Cobb Stage 1, the tune is currently uninstalled and the AP is sitting in my desk. I went down the heavy modding path with my Subaru and the more strain I put on the car the more problems I ran into.

I definitely agree with what you are saying.....the car is a dream to drive, when it is behaving of course. Yes the forums hype up the problems true, but when you go to the dealership and they talk up the same problems and actually try to sway you away from a 335, there is a very real problem there. HPFP, vanos and injectors will go on the majority of 335's out there, its already a proven. BMW did not do their homework with the car before it hit market then they denied there was inherent issues with the N54, we all know this. That is why 335's are know to be unreliable to date, you can not deny that any way you look at it.

If reliability is the most important thing you are considering, you probably should not own this car based on that.

Also, most people on here do the typical mods, jb something, exhaust, fmic, maybe DP's and get the same result: Quick burts of speed for street driving. Most people dont road race or track a 335 bc they are already aware of the issues in reliability as a starting platform!!!! regular e30's,e36/46/92 M's are the car of choice for the track, ask any long time bimmer fan about that and they will confirm.

Fit and finish on the car is as good as it should be for the price range of a 3 series. Nothing spectacular or above the norm.

i agree, if i picked up a e92 M or a e90 M as oppose to a 335i, i wouldnt have sold it for dirt cheap after putting more than 10k into it and buy a nissan instead

Yea I'm leaning more towards a 996 turbo.

why? the money it depreciated is basically equal to the money you would have already paid out by now

Am I reading this right ? You guys are now just figuring out that all that mod-ding isn't good for the cars reliability ? Just another thought, maybe you could have already owned that porsche or M if you didn't waste all that money on performance, cosmetic mods. Not looking to start anything but just sayin.

Modding is fun..There are plenty here who could have bought a ready made 400HP car from the factory..twice as fun getting there yourself..

Plus thats why you keep all the stock parts..I can go back to stock any time I want

Well said, modding is fun to a certain extent.....as long as you dont destroy the reliability of the car in the end.....

I think we all just really learned that the 335 is not a tune or mod-friendly platform. Kinda sucks.
