They list both the OEM and LuK # - it may just be a really, really cheap OEM flywheel. Per my LuK distributor, LuK doesnt have any DMF112 in the USA yet.

The LuK dual mass flywheel can be bought in Germany for EUR 529,99, which is around half the price that BMW asks for it.

Here's a link for those who're interested, and where also all the part no. are mentioned (this concerns the E9x models until 12/2008): 135i/335i dual mass flywheel - CarParts24

Hey mate,

the ACT clutch was holding up OK after two meets.

However on the third outing I was running on Hoosier 275 drag radials.

As such, there was little to no wheel spin out of the hole, the ACT just couldn't handle all that extra load.

However the life of the clutch will also depend upon what level of torque you are developing at the crank.

FYI,

I'm aware of two known failures of the OE dual mass flywheel, I'm not sure why you would want to replace the OE flywheel with the same suspect component.

Yes the dual mass flywheel will reduce clutch chatter, but it has proven to be a weak link as engine output is substantially increased.

I choose the OEM flywheel because there are no other alternatives. I don't want to sacrifice the car manners right now.

In fact, the failures only go to show that the stock flywheel holds up really good. They failed after many miles, on heavily tuned cars. I don't think an aftermarket aluminium single-mass flywheel could last like 60k miles...

I read many comments about people running aftermarket flywheels stating that "next time I will choose something less noisy".

If there was a good alternative I would choose it but as of now I can't see any...

PS: It this the company ? http://www.advan.co.nz/

Ummm,

the flywheel I am fitting is NOT made of aluminium.

It is made entirely of chromoly steel and has been nitrided.

It will most certainly outlast the OE flywheel, in particular when installed on "upped" turbo cars developing substantial power over stock.

The OE dual mass flywheel weighs in at 12.5 kg, mine is 10.0 kg.

It could have been made lighter if I so wished.

It also utilises the OE ring gear, that has been heated and then shrink/press fitted, as per the original method employed by BMW.

Sound good, but do you want to keep it secret ? You should post at least a price for it, if not a link with more details...it would be really helpful.

Also, what's with the "ADVAN" text ? Can't find anything on the Internet besides the wheels company...

PS: Is this the company ? http://www.advan.co.nz/

The workshop that has undertaken my 135i "build" is Advan Performance Center.

Peter the shop owner has tried and tried to obtain vendor status several times, but the forum reps are not getting back to him, sigh...

Anyway I do not want to have my posts deleted,

but if you check out my "build" thread on the 1addicts Australian forum, there are further details on the flywheel there.

Cheers,

JD.

Here's the link for the page of the build thread where the flywheel is mentioned: 135i build / last page new single mass steel flywheel

How does it drive? Any chatter?
