help halo out

Tried a quick search but I'm meetijg the girlfriend for a date and she hates it when I'm all about my car. Did a quick search though and came up with nothing
when trying out a new set of h8 bulbs I realized that they're junk go figure I only spent 8 bucks but now with the, oem back in my passenger side outter most halo is out but the innermost one, is bright as ever. How, do I fix this I thought they both operated on the same bulb? pictures and more details to come aftermtp date. Thanks

They do operate on the same bulb. It sounds like your outer ring is damaged which requires a new headlight.

If this is the case, my advice is to go OSS. It will be cheaper than replacing the headlight unless you find a used one. But if you are going to spend that money, might as well upgrade.

can someone better explain to me how these work, i am to understand so far that the halos are tubes that light travels through then reflect on "ribs" . both halo per light use one bulb. is this bulb only for the halos? if so how? and how could that outter ring be damaged, is it repairable? ********* i understand you have a lot of knowledge and i hope you can share.
Thank you

The rings use acrylic rods and celis technology to illuminate the rings. The light is directed into the polished acrylic end, travels though the rods, and into the rings. The rings have small grooves on the back. As you called them ribs. They serve to diffuse the light so it looks like the ring glows. In reality it is escaping light that makes the rings appear lit.

One bulb lights both rings on one headlight.

They can be damaged by heat. Maybe a short caused a situation where voltage was much higher than it was suppose to be. They could have also pop out of place. The rods, on my E90 at least, are clipped into place. There is a bracket that holds the rods snug so they can't pop out but if that was removed, damaged, or replaced incorrectly, the rod can pop out.

If you take out your angel eye bulb and try to look into the housing, see if anything is melted or out of place.

I'm really not sure of the LCI design. It's a bit different than the pre-LCI.

OK i thank you. I just couldnt see how pulling one bulb out and putting another in could possibly break them. the headlight has a long "tube" that basically leads to the bulb and is very hard to look into. the halo is not out just dim however so maybe i popped one of those clips you mentioned and therefore the light cant travel all the way around? I hope i can fix this else ill have to fork out another half grand on some OSS LEDs

Did you make sure that you've put the H8's back in properly? I know misalignment will make the outer one seem ultra dim and not lit up properly (exactly like your pictures) from experience. Hopefully that's the problem so you dont have to spend the $$$

+1 Seems silly, but make sure you turned the bulb all the way in to seat it properly when you re-installed it.

GOT IT!!! the prob wasnt the rods it was that i over turned the bulb when i put it in, therefore the wires blocked just enough light to cause the dimming effects.

pics to better explain and help others:

without bulb

and i also got productive and got my sunglass tray in
