Dragstrip Results - Advice
Setup:
I was running 12.9@117 (2.2 60') on the RFTs, and now 12.2@118 (1.9 60') on the DRs. What techniques can anyone offer that I can try? Should I do a burn-out with these tires? I have them at 27psi and did these runs without a burn-out. I did a clutch slip from about 4k. This was binary: either I'd light the tires up, or I'd bog. I cut 1.9's all night with 1 1.80; the meth cut-off for a moment in 3rd which is why the trap went down. Any ideas are appreciated. |

Try lowering the pressure in the BFG drag radials to around 18-22 psig range. Experiment to get the best 60'. And yes, do a decent burn out to heat them up - get them spinning enough to see them smoke good for a second - but not a Jonn Force burn out.
12.28 @ 118mph is awesome btw!

Update.
Changes: -put tires to 20psi from the old 30psi -running latest Procede aggressive beta maps (pump maps) -added MS109 on the same pump maps (17psi) No difference in traction. I really need to master a technique. If I do a burnout, I spin-out on the launch (perhaps still wet). Attached is my best and and best mph - 12.1, and 119.5 (~120! ![]() At this point, I am cutting normal street tire 60' times on these (street tire) BFGs with lots of miles on them (worn-down). I'm going to install the new procede 2-step sometime in the next week or two and try that. If I still can't hook, I'm going to ditch these tires for some ET streets. Thanks! |

i'm desperately trying to figure out how to launch this car...on street tires nonetheless. last week at the track i was spinning these Hankook Evo's into 3rd gear running the Cobb beta Race map. i think part of my problem was i wasn't slipping the clutch enough.....possibly letting off too quickly(not quite dumping the clutch)...causing extreme wheelspin. but with the the power/torque these cars are putting down....definitely hard to launch on anything but drag radials.

Drop the BFGs and get the Mickey Thompson 275/40-17 DRs. You will never go back to BFGs again. Also, you can't dump the clutch. Hold the rpms up and then you "knee jerk" off the clutch. Kind of a slight slip technique. You want to get the weight distributed over the rear tires then release all the way while laying on the throttle. I've cut 1.6 60s on an 18in DR in my GTO with that technique.
