JB4 + Catless DP, Chk Eng Light??

Guys, I'm really on the fence about just doing the JB4 vs the Dinan II tune and getting some catless DP's with the money saved. How does the JB4 work with catless DP's? I don't want check engine lights on.

JB4 will get rid of SES light through canclear, you'll be good.

JB4 actually has Auto-Clear as its catless downpipe solution. Alternatively you can manually clear codes as well.

OOOOO Perfect. JB4+catless DP's it is. Still cheaper than a Dinan II tune. and I get the autoclear and shift light

Be careful here though! There is a difference between just clearing the codes AND actually allowing the ECU to set readiness codes for emissions! I am not sure how exactly JB4 works with this, but if you have emissions testing in your state I'd highly recommend you do some more research on this subject!

I know for a fact that the minute you clear the CEL on my AUDI, the ECU automatically resets the emissions readiness codes. I would imagine the BMW DME does the same it has to comply with the same EPA regulations. This means that you will have to drive around till the ECU performs complete check on all emissions systems so that you can pass emissions testing. And part of those checks that the ECU does is for catalytic converter efficiency.

My BMW is due for emissions testing via OBD next year. I've been running the JB DP fix v3 and here is what Terry@BMS has said in regards to this:

Hello Terry,

I have a quick question regarding the BMS downpipe fix. I own the v3 unit with the adjustable switch. I've been running it for over 2 years now with great success. My car is due for emissions this year and I wanted to ask the following question:

Does the BMS DP Fix v3 set the Catalytic Readyness flag in the DME? I can take my car to OBD-only emissions testing stations where they plug their testing equipment into the OBD port while the car is running. They look for two things: stored trouble codes and readiness codes. If there are no stored trouble codes and there are no catalytic readyness codes, then they'll make me drive around a bit till the readiness code is set.

Thanks for your time and help in advance.

Hi Vasil,

The DPFIX v3 will allow readiness.

Best,
T

exactly. I still would like to have it "pass" an emissions test. I kind of wish FL would get emissions testing b/c people like us find ways around it and our cars run efficiently. FL if full of $300 1982 Corolla & civics that burn more oil than gas. You would think they are a 2 stroke boat motor. When I worked at Advance Auto during college I would see the same people coming in, buying 1qt of 20w-50 house brand oil regularly. Like every tues night. tons of people would do this. Fl needs to rid itself of the junk on the road. And ban texting, and phone calls.

Back on track... I wonder if I need to run the o2 simulators with the catless pipes and the JB4. That would be interesting.
