I have the Nav system in the 335 E93 and another factory unit built into my wife's Lexus RX330. I also have a Nuvi 350 that I use on trips with rental cars around the country for pleasure and for consulting work. I have NEVER found the NUVI to be wrong in its directions. I also have the City Navigator 8.0 maps that I can download info to the NUvi with which worked gr8 for a National Park trip we took last summer. It was accurate EVERYWHERE for over 3500 miles.
The Lexus unit is by far the best with the touch screen but the Nuvi is a real close runner up. The BMW unit is better than my old 330 cic but a far cry from user friendly and pales in comparison to the Lexus and Nuvi. A friend has the Tom Tom and loves it but when we used the Nuvi on a trip we took together he said he liked the operation and speed(especially recalculatiing) of the Nuvi better. Hope that all helps.

I have had the Garmin SPIII for many years and it has worked very well. I am also thinking about getting the Nuvi for the touchscreen and smaller size. However, I did hear the TomTom comes with European maps as well, something you have to pay extra with Garmin.
