Not really another winter tyres thread - just pleased that after running the winter tyres for 6 weeks in warm, dry weather, they've suddenly come into their own.
Leaving for work this morning at 6am, my road was like an ice rink. 2 other cars sat there, wheels spinning on the ice, going nowhere fast. I drove straight off the drive, up the hill, round the corner and off to work without even a glimmer of the TC light. To be fair, I have no idea whether that would have happened on the summer tyres, but I feel quite smug ![]()

I had similar thoughts the other morning when leaving for work. I could see some other cars moving very gingerly down the hill while I went up. It didn't quite click what they were doing because I was able to drive quite normally. Then of course I bathed in a glow of smugness

We will have plenty more days to use them after Christmas, Jan and Feb are traditionally by far the owrst months. Everyone seems to think because it hasn't been too bad yet that us people who invested in winter tyres have wasted our money.

I've found now the roads are icey I've got a lot more confidence in the grip available than previous years, not to say I drive at summer speeds but its just nice to know.
I followed an astra along some non-gritted roads the other day on frost/ice, must of been doing 10mph. Soon as we got to the gritted section he buggered off into the distance without regard for the fact gritters don't cover every square meter of tarmac, you can't teach stupidity I guess. |

I watched my neighbour clear the snow off his drive once with buckets of hot water. I swear i don't know how some people survive. |
