Heater Core Removal Procedure
Hello All,
I have an 06 325i Sedan and I need to remove the blasted heater core. I was getting a terrible antifreeze smell coming from the vents and I knew it was the culprit. I removed the entire dash and the the steering wheel and there was antifreeze all throughout the ductwork. I have managed to remove just about everything in the car BUT the heater core and its surrounding plastic and lines. I have separated the lines from the core, but I can't get them out of the way of the core to slide it out. It appears the cluster of coolant lines aren't very well secured to the firewall, but they are secured enough that I can't get them out of the way. Also, even if I can get them out of the way, there is a welded piece of metal that is in the way (to the left of the heater core in the photo) that prevents me from sliding the heater core out. I hate bending things out of the way if it wasn't designed to be removed that way. Thanks in advance. -- Steven |

I checked the Bentley E90 repair manual and for some reason they do not cover removal of the heater core. I also checked my stash of BMW TIS procedures that I copied from the BMW TIS site. I didn't grab the heater core removal procedure, sorry. I think the issue is that the heater core is part of the heat/AC box, which means you probably have to drain the AC system and break down the evaporator core connections and then drop the whole unit out from under the dashboard. You may want to got to the BMW TIS site and look for the procedure. The site is $30 for a 24 hour session. You can copy all the procedures you want during the session.
Good luck. |
