First, I don't think HPF will release an N54 turbo kit to market less than about 2 years from now. Look how long it takes for them to switch their kits from left hand drive to right hand drive cars. And second, the e46 is their business and they will concentrate all their efforts on that.
And third, and most important: why would someone need HPF stuff when you can have 500whp right now with $5000 worth of mods including upgraded turbos ? Why would you look forward to spend $18k on it from HPF ? They took a 340hp engine and got 438whp on pump gas to 495whp on race gas out of it for $18k. The current N54 development can make 500whp out of a 300hp engine for $5k, on pump gas with methanol. |

When can I send my deposit? I want to be one of the first to get the hands on the kit.

Overall the kit looks nice, but I can't say that I like that downpipe design. Forcing the wastegate exhaust gasses into a wall like that isn't any where near ideal. If anything you want to keep the two exhaust streams separate as far as practically possible.

All the custom fabrication involved in this kit completely justify the cost. I mean the manual alone was probably a 1-2 month project for one employee. You can tell there was a ton of R&D and thought in building this kit from the quality of craftsmanship to all the little details like the custom harnesses. Also the man hours to just test and develop each custom component, working out deals with suppliers, sourcing all the little bits and pieces and paying the guy to physically pick and check every kit that goes out the door, I can only imagine the labor cost. I have a feeling they are not making as much profit as people suspect on this kit.
With that said, I am hoping the 335i kit will actually be cheaper, due to the fact they are already dealing with a platform that started as a turbo car rather than engineering a N/A motor to take a turbo system. |
